i've always eaten ice cream out of a mug or a cup from when i was a kid up until now (i'm 26) and i thought it was something that everyone did until my boyfriend asked me why i did it that way. i just told him i've always eaten it like that plus it's convenient because you can hold the handle and your hands won't get cold.

according to him the "right" way to eat it is in a bowl or in an ice cream cone which is technically true, that's how it's usually eaten but i personally don't see a problem with eating it in a cup or a mug.

so is it weird to eat it the way that i do?

edit: and before anyone asks, yes we have a good relationship, no i won't break up with him because of this, he said it mostly as a joke but i wanted to post it here just for funsies and to see if anyone else eats it out of a cup or a mug

I am gonna make this short:

My mother has cancer and is currently on chemo.

Now, I have hopes that she can beat the cancer, or at least delay it long enough that she will have a close to normal life expectancy.

However, there is one nagging fear:

What if she gets checked up in 2 weeks, it is revealed that chemo does nothing and that the tumor has grown?

At what point is it appropriate to ask questions like "Mom, how do you want to be buried?" or "Do you want to be cremated?"

I do not want to wait too long until she is very weak, because if I am on literally my last leg, the last thing I want to think about is things like "where is my social security card, my birth certificate and my insurance data", let alone the dreaded "Where do I want to be buried?"

I'm curious how US laws can allow the use of Nazi Swastikas and Nazism when they were a belligerent nation. Wouldn't that be considered treason? Treason and sedition are exceptions to free speech so why has no one argued this before?

Edit: for the sake of discussion, let's change some wirds because I forgot that Treason is mainly associated for wartime.

How about Terrorism and Nazism?

I(25m)work at a sub shop as a shift leader. As long as shit gets done, I really don't care. A relaxed/joking atmosphere always makes shifts go by faster...except there is an issue. Crew member, lets call her "J"(f17) was making a joke about her body count being high, and I responded with "low prices attract more customers". Easily a 4/10 when it comes to how bad jokes can get.

Got a call the next day from another shift leader, giving me a heads up about J saying I have been making inappropriate comments to her, especially with her being a minor. This trickled up to the GM, and the DM.

Had to have a very uncomfortable conversation, where the only response I really had was "no I'm not a predator".

Leads into today, I ignored every comment/joke she tried to make unless she was asking a question directly related to work. Forced everyone to be 110% on task, which led to us being done with things early enough that I sent J home early from her shift.(other person was scheduled to close, J was not. J was the only option to reduce labor) J is now upset that I am no longer friendly/casual when she is on my shift.

I see it like this- you escalated a personal issue into something that threatens how I pay my rent. How I buy my groceries. So, to avoid any possible overstepping of boundaries I am acting purely in a professional manner/Taking guidelines to the letter.

I really hate doing this though. They aren't a bad kid, and it makes shifts so much more stressful than they have to be. Is there a way I can approach this differently?

Edit: Literally not a single comment has answered my question, or even attempted to.

I have the day off tomorrow and I’m board. I just discovered that the train goes through many cities and I need something to do besides lay in bed all day. It sounds like an adventure but also kinda of dumb because I have no destination. Also it’s free for me.

You often see how the average salary in Russia is like 6-800 dollars a month. I always wondered what that means.

Does that mean that their life quality is if you would love on 6-800 dollars per month in the US, or that the conversion rate to the dollar sums up to that?

I'd the latter, can that mean that in their own country they may still live a decent life on that amount of money, the same way most people in the west can live fine on an average salary?

Before I could smoke weed whenever, feel good, laugh, felt really good. Now I smoke it, and my thoughts are horrible and sad, panic attacks, and anxiety is through the roof. Feels like a borderline psychotic episode. Why?

Hi, I have a problem I need a your ideas on. For context, I work in a tobacco shop, and I’ve had a teenager (16) constantly coming in every week asking to buy stuff.

When I first asked for ID, he very confidently showed me his ID, which threw me off for a second, but after double checking I realised he’s 16. When I pointed that out, he very confidently said no I’m 18, to which I just replied no. Then he asks if his friend can buy stuff to which I said no again.

Now I get teenagers being stupid and ignoring logic, but this kid literally came in AGAIN! As soon as I see him I said I can’t serve you, and I thought that was the end of it. Nope. He tells me he’s 18, pulls out his ID again, and goes to show me. I say no, he asks why, to which I said you’re 16. “Can my friend buy it?”

Okay twice it happened, weird, but he does look like he’s dealing with some issues, so I guess it’s fine.

I later checked with my coworker who works on days I don’t, and she’s had to deal with the exact same scenario.

Today was I think the 5th time he came in. The conversation goes exactly the same every time, and when he’s leaving he always says “I’ll be back”.

He’s also learned that we have cameras in store, so he puts his hood on and tightens it so you can only see his face from the front. Except, he hasn’t realised there is a camera outside so I watch him put his hood on every time.

I don’t know what I can do, the owner doesn’t want me to call the cops, and I don’t really want him to come back, because at this point I’m scared. He looks and acts unhinged, he’s a teenager, he wants to buy knives, which makes me think he already has knives or he’ll eventually get one, and I just don’t want to deal with it. I’m also scared he’d jump me on my way to my car for revenge, since I close really late.

What do you guys think I can do?

From Rose on Titanic to Logan in Gilmore Girls, I always see the trope of the rich, young trust fund kid who feels trapped by family expectation and is miserable because of it. Do people like that really feel that way? (I cannot relate at all working class girl who would kill to never have to worry about money lmao)

Like giving you the sign and saying, "here, bring this home and put it in your yard"

I tried googling it but couldn't find anything concrete. It doesn't seem completely legal but I'm not a lawyer or anything. Located in the US

Does anyone actually use them? anytime l've stayed at an Air bnb or a hotel there's always a plethora of storage for belongings but I don't dare use it. I'm always worried I'm gonna end up just forgetting my stuff there. (I'm very forgetful) And the thought of unpacking everything just to put it away and then have to do it again a couple days later, sounds exhausting. So, do people take advantage of the closets and dressers? Or no?

I'm super broke and only have a can of soup in the garage, the only thing is there's minor rust and it's a couple months expired. Should I eat it? I'm really hungry.

I have to say something or it will drive me crazy because I have been noticing it for too long.

Nobody shames Japan, China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia...etc for not having enough diversity or for implementing very strict immigration policies but when the west does it everybody calls it racist or alt right.

Why? Even in media. Their media is very homogeneous, as an example, how to train your dragon the remake is going to have a diverse cast even though it doesn't make sense but nobody is angry at how squid games isn't diverse.

My 12 year old brother and I (19 F) were having a good deep chat about our personalities, type of people we would wanna date in the future etc etc. and it ended up with him saying “ a gamer boy like me would never get a girl to like him”. I tried so hard to understand why he thought that and tried to talk confidence into him, but I don’t think it went through his head. I need someone to tell me what to tell him and how to act to make him understand that he doesn’t need anyone to like him and that’s enough for him to like himself ( which i told him that btw and he just outright said “ i don’t like myself”) ik it’s the teenage hormones messing him up but i wanna prevent his confidence from getting any worse.

My parents constantly preached that education was the solution, that I should go get a degree and get a "good" job instead of what they did. My dad's line was always "get a morning shower job, not a night shower job".

Now I work in technology and make a volume of money I'd never even have dreamed to make as a kid. But when I'm, like, ordering a burger or someone else is mowing the lawn at my condo association, I always think that could have been me. How the fuck do I deserve a very privileged life and they do not? They are working their asses off.

I donate, I volunteer, but I have a nagging sense that I just won the fucking lottery and I don't deserve my privilege any more than anyone else deserves their poverty.

idk if anyone else experiences this but is it weird?

They always say the two things being compared aren't the same, but isn't that the point? Comparing one concept shared by two unalike things?

For example:

John (very nerdy): It's been 3 days since I failed that math test, and I still feel like crap. And it was all because I forgot the y in that stupid formula! If I'd just studied a little harder...

Kyle (very musical): You're still upset about that? Grow a pair, dear God!

Me: Kyle, imagine you had been practicing for weeks for a big concert. You had everything perfect, but then on the big day, you played an Ab's instead of A's during your big solo and it messed up the whole thing. How would you feel?

Redditor: Holy shit! You think a concert is the same thing as a test? Because it's not. And I can prove it! Come to a concert with me and then we'll take the ACT. You'll see.

This is a legit question, because I really don’t know. Most of the headlines I see are usually along the lines of “GOP reps vote against XX policy to help XX group of people” unless it’s taxes for businesses and wealthier individuals.

I keep reading that we’re subsidizing the oil industry to the tune of billions. The industry very old, extremely wealthy. Is it not able to self fund? What makes these subsidies necessary?

Due to various biological factors, women cannot compete with men in almost every single sport which is fine since men should compete against men and women should compete against women. However, why has the best chess player on the planet never been a woman? I wouldn't consider chess a sport or chess players 'athletes' but chess does not really have a physical component to it where men would have the advantage.
