!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Many bug repellant are just a mix of artificial fragance/essential oils whose smell repell bugs.

Let's take the example of lemongrass against mosquitoes. How does-it work ? Does it cancel out the human flesh smell making you invisible for the mosquito ? Or does it smell so bad for the mosquito that they run away ?

Isn't it supposed to be ice creams and milkshakes and stuff?

Like what does a light sleeper sleep through and wake up to?

I've had this old blanket since I was 11. I don't wanna say my exact age but let's say it's been over a decade. When I moved homes, I just had to have my blanket and old pillowcase. When I moved homes my mom threw away my old blanket and I was really upset and my mom just about got it back before it got disposed of for good and I was so happy that my blanket was "saved".

The blanket's so old it has holes in it and a few years ago I found out the exact same blanket is still being sold and I bought a new one which looks nothing like my old one because it's...well, new, but I'm still using the old one and the new one is still in its packaging. I almost feel like it's a friend? Almost? And by sleeping with another blanket I'm betraying it or something. I just feel immediately comforted by the blanket even though there's nothing objectively comforting about it (it's not a weighted blanket and is so worn down it's not very insulating).

I don't know. I feel some weird emotional connection to that blanket? Does anyone else feel something similar or can relate?

It is from an old Dell Inspiron laptop. Is there a way to use this as a wired keyboard (could not find any easy/cheap way on the internet)? Or maybe use it as something else?

Even with android custom ROMs like Lineage, support eventually ends. Meanwhile, you can just slap on linux onto any old computer and its still getting the latest updates. 🤔

Why not just do the same thing with phones? Forever phone updates? 👀

My old boyfriend died in 2015 (from diabetes) and I've been single since then. I also don't know if I'll like having sex or not. I am sexually attracted to men/am straight but I don't know. It's like the idea of someone doing that to me, I'd find it embarrassing because I'm gross.

I absolutely love spicy food, and it's never affected my gut. I was actually confused when I read about people getting the shits after a curry and wondered if it was a joke. I've had curries so hot it caused people to recoil into a coughing and sweating fit after they dipped their finger in and had a taste and I have one every other day. I feel the burning in my mouth, my face turns red, my forehead sweats, my esophagus feels weird, but (tmi I know lol) when I go to the toilet I'm completely fine. no gut pains either.

It's never made sense to me that some people refuse to drink water even if they know it keeps you functioning properly. The same people will complain of constipation or dry skin but don't want to do the thing that fixes their issues.

Edit for context:

My view is transracial isn’t valid and this person is trying to dogwhistle. I’ve already blocked this person, and now they’re going after my friend saying my friend is transphobic because they disagreed with them about transracial being a thing (they're purposefully leaving the context out so my friend looks transphobic when what my friend really said was transgender is valid but transracial isn't)

I usually buy the Jiffy pop, because I just have an electric stove. I have some bags of microwave popcorn. Can I put them on range and like shake it or something?

I don’t have a glass lid to keep popcorn from flying everywhere if I just dump it in a pan.

Accidentally thwapped my phone. It now has a line of white pixels in the middle that came up some time after thwapping. Heard this can be cleared with a lighter flame to the bottom. Is this true?

In this day and age, I unfortunately have to have an alternative source of income to sustain myself. How the fuck do I get started with cryptocurrency?

Like the poor lack empathy and then as you go up the bell curve empathy rises, maxing out at middle class, and then again falling as you start hitting being rich?

This is... A bit of a dumb question, but I am really curious

100 random people because I think due to personal beliefs/political orientation the answer would differ, maybe someone would really like the Nordic countries, some would like China/Japan for good infrastructure, some would like the US due to extreme wealth...

Also I don't mean what their favorite country is, but whether what their favorite country "should be" given their beliefs

Not all but some autistic people seem to have certain accent. Chris Chan is a good example of what I'm talking about.

Bonus points: if that place/activity is friendly for disabled people with limited mobility.

I'm saving up for a new phone and I'm thinking of getting a foldable one.
Are they really as good/bad as people say they are?

The one I had in mind was the Pixel Fold.

Basically I'm tired of all the restrictions smartphone companies are adding, and I just wanna have a cheap budget phone with a data plan then just hotspot it to my pocket-pc.

Does such a "pocket-pc" device exist?
