They always say the two things being compared aren't the same, but isn't that the point? Comparing one concept shared by two unalike things?

For example:

John (very nerdy): It's been 3 days since I failed that math test, and I still feel like crap. And it was all because I forgot the y in that stupid formula! If I'd just studied a little harder...
