So... it's possible the government might do something bad in the future, so we need to outraged about it now?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 hours ago

Yep.

Being complacent about how laws and ruling are currently being used, instead of being concerned about how they can be used, is why we've seen abortion bans and restrictions in the USA in recent years.

I'm upset that more deference to House MPs' summer vacation was given in the Senate than the potential impact to our rights.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about Bill C-5 (though Bill C-2 needs to either be scrapped or massively reworked IMO), since there could be bills to amend the laws again, or matters of discretion that come out of this summer's consultation.

The power is in the government now in law, but the civil and legal pushback will come depending on how forceful the government attempts to use this newly gained power.

The country got hoodwinked. So distracted by Poilievre that they snuck another Harper creature in to lead the Liberals.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 18 hours ago

I don't think there was any distraction. We had two shit choices and NDP. And since this country fails to elect NDP time after time, it was a given that we were pretty fucked. The main difference during this election between the parties that I saw were:

  1. The Liberal platform didn't contradict itself every point or two

  2. The Liberal platform focused a lot more on domestic tourism, accessibility, and making it easier to transport our own goods across provincial borders.

I don't see how bill C-5 fits into any of the platform they put forward.

any time a government is trying to fast track a bill, every resident should be paying special attention; no matter their party of choice.

pretty crazy that this came from the Liberals

pretty crazy that this came from the Liberals

Not really. Setting aside the obvious "liberalism is the precursor to fascism," this is simply modern day colonialism, and when have liberals ever opposed colonialism?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

good grief. you either have a DEEP misunderstanding of the words "liberalism" and "fascism" or you're a troll.

or perhaps a descendant of Mussolini?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Uh... We are literally in a thread about that in action. The next time conservatives are in power they'll be very thankful the liberals passed this.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago

yes we are in a thread, and we are witnessing some fascism from the Liberals, but that doesn't make your statement true. did you come over here from 4chan?

Everyone hates Trump so much but have learned nothing. Don't you get it? Parties are just a tool for populists, and that is exactly what Carney is.

I am definitely not a communist but didn't Marx say something about false consciousness? Keep worshiping the rich because they are on your "team" and you'll pay for it. Yeah elect a billionaire to fight another billionaire and the people are somehow going to benefit? It's ridiculous.

WTF is happening in the world.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 16 hours ago

It is the beginning of the end.

Something something reset.

I think had we had a minority Conservative gouvernent with a strong NDP opposition, we would be in a much better situation.

I hate the conservatives but fuck the liberals for being dishonest hypocritical pieces of shit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Seems like a no lose scenario for the Liberals: Courts will strike this down and the Liberals take another talking point away from the Conservatives.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago

That's... An excessively optimistic interpretation, to say the least.
