I picked up an old/cheap digital TV antenna and plugged it into my TV and watching regular TV for the first time in 20+ years.

The automatic channel scan picks up 9 stations here in Toronto. I was hoping for PBS but no luck. I don't think I even have english CBC. Where is it supposed to be?

There isn't a TV guide station anymore.

So far the best thing I found is OMNI TV where I just watched the news in Tagalog (I think) and now it's on again in Arabic. On a weekend where time is happening, the English that's sprinkled in is enough to make it interesting to me.

Anyways in a general sense how do you find out what's on TV

Literally, the mobility shuttles constantly spam ring their bells throughout the terminal. They also speed so fast and expect the entire crowd to rush and create space for them to move? I understand they are an accessible service, but what's the rush?

Opponents say Toronto city council’s decision to create optional 50-metre bubble zones restricting protests around some institutions is “shocking,” goes further than originally proposed and could leave the city open to legal challenges.

The bylaw, which passed at a council meeting on Thursday, will allow places of worship, schools and child care centres to request protesters be barred from city property — such as sidewalks and roads — in a 50-metre zone around their facilities.

Louise Smith, a co-founder of the Coalition for Charter Rights and Freedoms which brought together the group of protesters, said city councillors “disrespected” the public consultation process by passing the bylaw. “They told us that consultation was going to inform their decisions, and then they basically ran right over [that],” she said.

However, the majority of respondents to a city-led public survey were against the zones, with 63 per cent saying they were either "strongly unsupportive" or "somewhat unsupportive" to Toronto adopting a bylaw similar to other municipalities.

Not only did councillors vote to expand the size of bubble zones, but they also “stripped away some of the safeguards” that would have prevented institutions from “abusing” the bylaw, Smith said.

Smith said the right to protest must be protected because “that's how positive social change happens,” and religious institutions shouldn’t have special status that protects them from public demonstrations.

One of the teen girls accused in the fatal swarming attack on a homeless Toronto man has been found not guilty of second-degree murder, but guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

She was one of eight girls between the ages of 13 and 16 who were arrested and charged with second-degree murder after Lee's death. The other seven girls have pleaded guilty to lesser charges – five to manslaughter, one to assault and one to assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

"She had a weapon and a demonstrated willingness to use it against Mr. Lee," he wrote in his verdict, referencing surveillance video footage of the attack that was central to the trial.

Lee was living in the city's shelter system and was at the parkette near Toronto's Union Station with a friend when they encountered the group. He died in the early hours of Dec. 18, 2022, after undergoing emergency surgery at St. Michael's Hospital, court has heard.

The judge said Friday that watching the video of the attack left him "struck by the irrational viciousness" of the group's conduct and the girl's use of the scissors as a weapon. "Yet, this does not lead me to the conclusion that she had the state of mind for murder," he said. "The word 'murder' is not a shorthand for an extreme level of moral failure or a high degree of viciousness."

Business owners on Bathurst are running an astroturf campaign using AI generated videos of fake people to try and stop on-street parking being turned into dedicated transit lanes.

They claim they just want their voices heard, when in reality they're upset that others' collective voices are louder than theirs. They also make nonsense statements like it shouldn't be trade-off, when it inherently is since there is limited street space on Bathurst.

The owners of Summerhill Market seem affiliated with the group but are trying to pretend they're not, and the owner of Minerva Cannabis appears to be one of the leaders of the group, and decision makers behind the AI videos.

The Ford government is planning to crackdown on municipal councillors found violating codes of conduct, introducing stiffer measures that could see a councillor forcibly removed.

On Thursday, the province re-introduced legislation that was brought forward prior to Ontario’s election, proposing changes through the Municipality Accountability Act.

The proposed legislation intends to standardize codes of conduct and training across Ontario and a consistent integrity commissioner inquiry process for councils to utilize.

For more serious violations, a sitting municipal councillor could face being kicked off council for a four-year period under Ontario’s proposal.

A man is dead after being shot by Peel police at Toronto Pearson's Terminal 1 Thursday morning. 

The shooting happened shortly before 7 a.m. after police received a call from a member of the public about a dispute involving two or three people, Peel police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said. The group knew each other and was there "for the purposes of travel," he said. 

Three officers responded to the call. Police had been attempting to mediate the dispute for around 10 minutes when the man abruptly took out a firearm and pointed it at an officer, he said. 

The man was "in distress" and had been in an SUV at Terminal 1 departures, but the shooting happened outside the vehicle, the SIU said.
