This is honestly a trash article. It can be summarized as:

"Microsoft, a trillion dollar corporation that makes around $150 billion in pure profit, every single year, is tempering expectations around AI, BUT then why are they still investing $12B dollars in it, that makes no sense!".

Like, they're tempering expectations around AGI revolutionizing the economy, not saying AI is trash and theres no value whatsoever in it.

Fellow AI-haters should check out the newsletter and podcast of Ed Zitron.

If you're not a hater and want a balanced and rationale take, don't.

Why aren't the data brokers being charged with accessory to murder?

Writing stuff down with pen and paper is an objectively better way to remember things then digital files, also way more secure unless you really, really know what you're doing.

Well if you're going to give them another shot, you should try the Outer Wilds.

Much less abstract puzzle solving, and it tells quite a good narrative (no combat).

You don't have to like it, but out of curiosity, why is this different from a 90s point and click adventure? Isn't Myst and Riven and stuff basically this, but first person and without combat?

Because I was thinking of being a mystified child staring at Myst on my friend's computer more than once while playing Tunic.

It never clikced with me moment to moment and the self-congratulatory aren't-we-smart information discovery stuff just doesn't work for me in most cases (this applies to Fez and The Witness, too).

I think the word you're looking for is "puzzle".

It used to be that when most countries were or in trouble or needed help they would go to the US for help

Did it?

It's not, that's a you and your partner thing. Healthy relationships have space for independence and personal hobbies in them.

A significant other should not prevent you from enjoying your hobbies.

Most of the people I know who don't have kids and 'don't have time for gaming' in reality just have a significant other who looks down on gaming and makes them feel bad about it when they do.

if you don't have kids, you should have plenty of time for video games.

If you do have kids that can become harder to justify.

Business owners on Bathurst are running an astroturf campaign using AI generated videos of fake people to try and stop on-street parking being turned into dedicated transit lanes.

They claim they just want their voices heard, when in reality they're upset that others' collective voices are louder than theirs. They also make nonsense statements like it shouldn't be trade-off, when it inherently is since there is limited street space on Bathurst.

The owners of Summerhill Market seem affiliated with the group but are trying to pretend they're not, and the owner of Minerva Cannabis appears to be one of the leaders of the group, and decision makers behind the AI videos.

Don't buy those crappy plastic bag-clips to hold chip bags, flour bags, etc closed. They're unsatisfying, they wear out and bend, and they just add more plastic pollution to the world.

Instead buy more binder clips. They're made from spring steel, they're strong as hell, they almost never wear out, they can be used to close bags, as small clamps, as hangers for almost anything in a pinch, and they're amazing for building pillow / blanket forts.

I have some from my grandma that she bought 30 years ago and they work just as well as the ones I bought a year ago. The only risk with them ever is rust, and you can just scrub that off with vinegar, add a brush of paint and it's fixed.

Truly some of my favourite robust little items.

I can't be the only reddit migrant who often instinctually goes to a given community by typing /r/community, only to be 404d. If the /r/ path isn't being used for anything else, is it possible to have it dynamically redirect to /c/ instead?

The federal New Democrats backed Conservative demands Wednesday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau take part in a televised "emergency meeting" on carbon pricing with Canada's premiers.

The federal carbon price is not the "be-all, end-all" of climate policy, and New Democrats are open to alternative plans presented by premiers, NDP environment critic Laurel Collins said Wednesday.
