Yeah look, the method or type of expansion the Slavs did isn't the important part, plus the territory wasn't some Terra Nullius that Polesian Slavs wandered into and then peacefully built cities upon. I got the sparknotes abridged version of the history, but I was mainly using it to make a point.

The point I was making for the OOP who said "God put us Ukrainians where we are to hold back Russian imperialism like XYZ in the Bible and prevent Moscow from bringing darkness to the world" which implies the Abrahamic God directly creates nation states. Then the next logical question would be "well how did Russia get there?" The aforementioned God made Kiev expand to the White Sea in Finland to the north and modern day Russia to the east so one day, as part of its divine plan, the descendants of Kiev would be able to oppose Russia, who are different descendants of the Kievan Rus?

Which specific group of people that was displaced/assimilated isn't the crux of my argument. I don't know the name of the people who are descendants of the Scythians, I was picking away at a delusion of a divine destiny.

They never did reply to my comment pointing out that Russia existing is due to Kievan Rus' expansions driving out/killing the many Tartar, Bulgars, Scythian, Khazar etc nomadic and semi nomadic peoples in the region and that Moscow was only established as a Slavic city in 950AD, as Kievan Rus settlers migrated north east.

Was that also God's plan? For Kievan Rus' imperialism to create Russia then spend the rest of time opposing Russian imperialism?

Look, if Israel is allowed to purposefully sink US warships, they'll be allowed to kill a bunch of US citizens.

Did anyone even get a slap on the wrist for Rachel Corrie's death?

How about that one time zone in Australia that was established just so people traveling between Adelaide and Perth (back when it took like almost a week) could adjust to the difference in when the sun rose/set

UTC+08:45

"The use of this timezone dates back to at least 1935. The April 1935 Commonwealth Railways public timetable shows that 'Central Time' was used by that government organisation between Wynbring (in the East; Localities on the Trans-Australian Railway) and Rawlinna (in the West). Passengers were advised to advance/removed their watches by 45 minutes each night on their journey."

The number of permanent residents that use this weird time is in the double digits, incl. the town of Cocklebiddy (population:14)

The Slavs would be a balkanized or barely federated series of principalities and city states if the Mongols never rode west and killed so many of them they were forced to band together or face extinction. Russia and Ukraine wouldn't exist if it weren't for this historical event. Does this mean Genghis Khan is God, or at the very least the will of God?

They don't taste nearly as good after a while, since the onion flavour comes from sulfur in the soil which it utilizes to make itself too pungent for (most) herbivores to eat.

Eventually, in the same soil, the onion stalks will get milder and milder, until there's no more sulfur in the soil. Onions (not just green) grown in soil entirely absent of sulfur will be sweet (esp if the cultivar was sweet to begin with)

It's about how the Democrats are going to reboot The Bund, which will still be set in 1920's Shanghai but starring Americans while filmed entirely in Georgia

It sounds like a terrible idea but I digress

Hello! Depending on where your passport is from, you may not need a visa for a visit under 30 days, consult here (US and Canada are not on the list)

Apps you may need are WeChat and/or AliPay, and for a VPN to be able to onto the liberal website "Hexbear" I use Mullvad.

Early October isn't exactly the best time to visit if you're going during the start, as it's 八一 which means there will be a lot of domestic tourists. A lot of locations/trains will be absolutely flooded or booked out. In later October, the South will still be t-shirt and short weather while the north will be colder, meaning you should pack some jackets (I'd recommend layers to easily put on take off as needed)

The blue share bicycles are available for tourists (as they are AliPay) whereas the yellow Meituan ones are rented through WeChat and require a Chinese phone number (which requires a Visa/身份证 to obtain)

You'll also notice food portions get larger as you travel north. Always reminds me of my Tianjin grandfather saying something about southerners being stingy and/or greedy. If you ever hit the north east (东北)you might actually encounter all you can eat buffets for like $3 USD. Bear this in mind when you're ordering food, to avoid ordering too much once you get to the north.

(meat is in the image on the packaging, and there is chicken bouillon in the flavour packet)

Context: {北京|Běi jīng} Mala Instant Noodles is a Chinese instant noodle made in {南街村|Nán jiē cūn}, a Maoist village in Henan that refused to follow Deng's liberal reforms and remained communist to this day. The villagers collectively own the Nanjie group that guarantees employment and runs over 20 different enterprises, largest of which produce foodstuffs such as beer, flour, and noodles amongst other things. The workers are paid 30% of the profits as cash and 70% is re-invested into public works. Villagers enjoy free housing, electricity, gas, healthcare, transport and education from kindergarten to university/vocational school. Furniture and essential electronics are also provided to every household for free.

My proudest posting achievement by far.

Note: this has technically been the law for a few years but it was not enforced, esp during COVID, nor did many smaller hotels have the software needed to even enter foreign names. Certain chains had a 3 character limit on the name field and because guests legally had to register their ID, they couldn't accommodate. Other short stay hotels wrongly assumed they needed special licenses to house foreigners like long term accommodation.
