I dump all of mine at the beach when I take my old car batteries to feed the eels

[–] [email protected] 35 points 7 months ago

Oh you’re where we get all the sea glass from

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago

the beach is HUNGRY

You should look up the disposal guidelines for sharp objects for your area

No need to slice up a sanitation worker's hands for no reason

my local recycling place doesn't take glass angery

[–] [email protected] 27 points 7 months ago

Whaaa that's insane. Glass is a classico style recyclable

Yeah I picked it up from my grandmother. Broken glass goes into a marked container so the trash bros don't get hurt. I don't know if the trash bros actually see it though since it's in a bag.

I do this for the sanitation workers. Dumpster divers are just a bonus I suppose.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 7 months ago

Yes, chemistry class taught me to

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 months ago

if I see a box like this I'm assuming it has treasure and immediately shoveling it's contents into my mouth without checking it first

[–] [email protected] 15 points 7 months ago

That dude searching for his bitcoin hard drive will appreciate your consideration

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Yeah I do, in a bag or sth but not loose. Never thought about it for the dumpster divers but for the guys who have to throw those bags around. But here it's recyclable

I also wrap razor blades in cardboard

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago

If I can't take it to the recycling center, for whatever reason, yeah. Sometimes I've taken two strips of duct tape and sandwiched the shards between them when I didn't have a box or small plastic bottle/tub to use.

I think glass goes in the recycling and the recycling centres don't like it when you put stuff in other containers

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I googled.

Recycle Coach

The bottom line is that recycling companies do not accept broken container glass.

Ninja edit. I just realized it's surely US only info. Other places? I have no idea

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Hmm, maybe they do want box glass. I'll check, its something that rarely comes up (I usually have cans)

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

I do but I don't label it. I guess anybody going thru my trash should mind any taped up boxes that sounds like there's a bunch of broken glass inside

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

Well I've never thought about that before but I will in the future.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

yeah. got in the habit at work when we have to sweep up broken glass to protect the maintenance worker when they take out the trash

thought there's a good chance someone is handling the municipal waste too although i think it's just cubed and dumped into a landfill by a truck. but you never know

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

Usually, but sometimes a random mess has me forgetting in the moment.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

We're boxing up boxing up boxing up broken glass kelly

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

yes but I do wonder if it really matters

where I am all the recycling is mechanically dumped into a truck with enough force that there is no way that a significant amount of the glass isn't broken by the process

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

You could try leaving your broken glass near your local police station

I just wrap shit like that in paper before binning it, more so at work where its more likely someone'll dig through the bin

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

in my area we have a separate tub for glass, and it doesn't get collected, we just fill it then take it to the recycling centre where there's a bottle bank or a bin for broken glass

I thought you were supposed to label it sharps. It's too bad my house doesn't have a sharps disposal slot (hole in wall) and I don't want to add one.
