Yeah, especially since replacing the mainboard is not trivial work at all. I assume it's probably more expensive outside Japan though, with the weak yen etc.

Raytracing and path tracing can look pretty nice and raytracing especially is worth turning on when it's a game where it's properly optimized. Unfortunately in many games, it really isn't, which means the performance impact is too large compared to the visual benefits. So in many games, I don't turn it on as I prefer the much higher framerate.

Upscaling technologies are pretty great. Especially in their current iterations, the image quality they can achieve from low resolutions is impressive. That said, they should be used as a way to get graphically advanced games working on low to mid-spec GPUs. Using them as a crutch to get unoptimized games working on high-end cards is not acceptable. Neither is pretending that upscaled and frame-generated performance is directly equivalent to native-res performance (looking at you, nVidia).

In general, no.

Depending on the situation, as a last resort, yes.

Linux EAC client is user level, so the statement only applies to Windows.

Some time around 2001 or so. Frequented various Pokemon fansites and also had some kind of "100 coolest websites for kids" book.

And reading the article, it's really just an O.

The beating around the bush about who it was actually sold to certainly doesn't bode well.

Honestly most of season 1 and about half of season 2 are pretty weak (with some decent episodes in between). Quite a lot of season 1 you can downright skip. There are quite a few guides out there on which episodes to watch and skip, for example here or even this one that skips season 1 and 2 almost entirely. In my opinion, from season 3 onwards, the general quality gets so good that you might as well watch every episode from that point.

Correct. With the Switch 2 in stand-by in its dock and the joycons detached, I press the home button on the right joycon and the Switch wakes up with a little jingle as well as the light on the dock turning on.

Every country has their own brand and degree of nationalism. For example, in Europe, you won't commonly see the national flag displayed in a private context in countries like France or Germany, but it's very common as a decoration in Switzerland and Denmark. Doesn't mean I'd really compare the Danes or Swiss to American nationalists though. I think what makes US-brand nationalism a special kind is the intense superiority complex, the feeling that they're the greatest country on earth and everyone else doesn't matter. No Swiss nationalist would think that their country could thrive without at least some degree of cooperation with other countries.

Maybe other large-population countries like China and India might be more similar. When I went to high school in China as an exchange student, they had a flag-raising ceremony once a week where the national anthem was played. But I guess that's still tame compared to having the pledge of allegiance every day.

I'd say it's less the surgery being addictive and more that the type of person going for plastic surgery in the first place may often have body dysmorphic disorder, so they'll keep finding flaws in their appearance. The surgery may even result in additional perceived flaws, which will lead to a cycle of getting even more procedures done.

"Her body type is minority" is a bit of a strange thing to say, like "minority" is a body type. From your explanation, you meant to say "Her body type is in the minority", so I guess it was a misunderstanding.

So I'm sure some of you have also gotten the spam DMs supposedly from "Nicole, the fediverse chick". She is notorious enough across Lemmy to even have her own community now. I think I've gotten like 6 Nicole DMs. While those may seem amusing on their own, there is the worrying suggestion that they might actually be a deanonymization attack. In light of that possibility, are there any measures the admins here could consider to prevent this kind of attack from happening? Other instances' solutions include for example rehosting external embedded images, filtering out external images from DMs entirely or trying to implement filters for preventing spam DMs from being sent. Especially one of the former two solutions would in my opinion be quite good options to protect the privacy of pawb.social users.

I've started to get into Pixelfed these past 2 weeks but one thing I don't quite understand yet, is what content is getting federated and what isn't. Under "Discover" I can see some trending posts from other instances but most are from the one I'm on and most have barely any interactions in terms of comments etc. I'm a bit surprised, as it's supposedly bigger than Lemmy now but I can see much less content and interactions than on Lemmy. So am I actually getting all the content from instances my instance is federated with, or is it maybe just the specific accounts being followed by members of my instance? And are interactions like hearts getting federated or are they just local?

I feel like the Linux Handhelds made by GPH in the 2000s are a nowadays almost forgotten piece of history, even though they were in some ways the predecessor to today's Steam Deck. So I wanted to create a bit of an appreciation post for this chapter in Linux Gaming history. Did any of you use a GP2X back in the day as well? For me, it wasn't just my introduction to Linux gaming, but also game development, as I programmed my first games for it using GLBasic. It was a fantastic machine for emulation as well, got introduced to many old games from the 80s and 90s through it.

I'm currently waiting for all the components for my PC upgrade to arrive. Got the motherboard today and immediately upon opening, I noticed that the CMOS battery was not in its slot but just kind of next to it loose on top of the board. The slot seems fine, it seems to fit securely in there. No scratches on the board either. But now I'm a bit worried - could the battery have shorted something on the motherboard? It holds a charge after all. What do you think - should I return it for a new one untested or are the chances of the battery harming anything so miniscule that I should just go for it and use it in my build?

The Steam Deck's multitouch screen might be its most underutilised feature. Until recently, I wasn't even sure whether devs could use it for anything more than simple mouse emulation. But I've just started playing "Sky: Children of the Light" on my Deck (which is generally a great experience on Deck, especially on the OLED with 90Hz HDR) and I found that when using a musical instrument, you can actually use the touchscreen to play up to 10 notes at the same time.

This got me curious: Do you know if there are any other games on Deck using multitouch, or is Sky the first one that does it?

That would explain why I didn't have any problems with Youtube and uBlock Origin.

I've noticed that Pawb no longer seems to receive any new posts from any feddit.de communities. For example, if I view the "DACH" community through Pawb, the latest post is from 7 days ago, while on feddit itself, there were many posts in the last 7 days. Both instances still seem to be federated and aren't on each other's blocklists. Any idea what is happening here?
