Oh, seems like I have been thoroughly missing what this is in reference to. My streak of tastelessness remains, as I do still genuinely like the colour, but I have to say, the reference does not work on a car like the Cybertruck, even if it had no other issues. It's a fundamentally different type of car, it feels like weirdly and randomly mashing things together.

Sadly, I have been born without a sense of aesthetics, so I actually kind of like the colour. Still, cannot defend the choice of car it is on, or the "01" - which I am uncertain what it is there for. (Attempt at racecar aesthetics? Sports reference I am missing? "I am #1" posturing?)

As per the article: Oleksandr Merezhko. Without knowing more about him, he does seem genuinely far from being on Russia's payroll or part of the proto-fascist elements (beyond potentially the usual accidentally being a useful idiot like many centrist liberals end up being, sadly). Seems more like an old school centrist out of his depth, but with genuine convictions for liberalism, for what it's worth.

My guess is that he either completely misestimated what Trump really is about - or maybe put forth the nomination to bait his narcissist side into doing more, with the prize serving as a carrot on a stick. Either way, he was quite wrong in hoping for Trump doing much to end the war.

Note that this works for PET (It's a pet peeve of mine when these articles just say "plastic" in a way that makes it sound, like this can recycle all types of plastics), and more precisely, PET after chemical processing into something else, useable by the modified bacteria. While still a great avenue for recycling, the article does not elaborate how feasible this could become in large scales (unless I missed a sentence or paragraph, that can happen with my brain.):

The team made their discovery when they took polyethylene terephthalate (PET) – a type of plastic often found in food packaging and bottles – and, using sustainable chemical methods, converted it into a new material.

When the researchers incubated this material with a harmless strain of E coli they found it was converted into another substance known as Paba in a process that must have involved a Lossen rearrangement.

Crucially, while the Lossen rearrangement typically involves harsh laboratory conditions, it occurred spontaneously in the presence of the E coli, with the researchers discovering it was catalysed by phosphate within the cells themselves.

The team add that Paba is an essential substance that bacteria need for growth, in particular the synthesis of DNA, and is usually made within the cell from other substances. However, the E coli used in the experiments was genetically modified to block these pathways, meaning the bacteria had to use the PET-based material.

The researchers say the results are exciting as they suggest plastic waste can be converted into biological material.

“It is a way to just completely hoover up plastic waste,” said Wallace.

The researchers then genetically modified the E coli further, inserting two genes – one from mushrooms and one from soil bacteria – that enabled the bacteria to convert PABA into paracetamol.

The team say that by using this form of E coli they were able to turn the PET-based starting material into paracetamol in under 24 hours, with low emissions and a yield of up to 92%.

While further work would be needed to produce paracetamol in this way at commercial levels, the results could have a practical application.

Right? Remember when "Bushisms" were a thing, they feel almost sensible now, just silly little mistakes in speech. Or how the media discussed that his calls for a fight of "good vs evil" were crossing a line, and people were still concerned abotu that. Or how there was a real discourse that warned, that debating if torture is "sometimes justified" would lead to a descend into barbarism...

THE QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE QUESTION!

Gratulations on the big 1.0 - maybe I'll try setting up an instance again later this month, last time I had issues with the nginx configuration that I was too tired at the time to work through with some health issues going on.

Ist das nicht nur ein großer switch?

It’s a little weird to have an AR-15 at a peaceful protest.

That was throwing me off, too, but at least anecdotally from within the article and other times I have heard it online, that seems to be not all that uncommon in the US in "open carry law" states. Weirds me out, too, but you would expect that people hired 'based on their “military, first responder and other relevant de-escalation experience.”' as per the statement of the organisers, should have de-escalatory tools for precisely open-carry situations before, well, shooting.
