Some context and history on the topic.

I wanted to ask if there is change in opinion on this topic, while slrpnk was down I had account federated with Hexbear and it didn't seem that bad. Yet I way be just propagandised enough to not see the problem.

What do you think?

I would be against it. I am a marxist and would probably have great debates there but the amount of toxicity will never be contained. I am 100% sure most will try to troll us and downplay climate change as gardening.

There's so much variety in leftism that federating with people that basically think there are only a few relevant movements won't be a very fun encounter. They should just host a lemmy for each of their union and federate if it's the beginning and end of their worldview IMO, then I'll consider federating with some of them.

The admin uses terms like "lib-shit" users on lemmy.ee as a reason for defederating from them. There are a lot of users on here, which are not full on Communists and with that sort of admin team, this is not going to end well.

I can tell you that even with people who are full on communist but not from their specific school of thought, that's not going to end well.

I know people who promote open source, vegetarianism, biking, which are things I support, in a way that makes me want to side with their opponents.

It is not about the ideas, it is about a behavioral pattern of trollishness.

Absolutely not.

I also had more experience with them while on an account that federated with hexbear. There were definite pros and cons to having them show up in my feed. They're a very active community and had lots of posts and comments. Definetly some good memes and fun conversations. There are also some very toxic views that get supported and given alot of attention.

I think for me personally I am fine either way. I dont think hexbear is all bad, but there are some definite bad parts. I can understand why the decision to defederate was made.
