The more I read about this movie, the more I'm convinced that Phillips made this to fuck with WB, DC, and capeshit fans, and fleece Hollywood out of millions of dollars in the process.

Phillips refused to coordinate with anyone from DC because he was never making a Batman movie or one that was meant to tie into anything else.

He insisted on shooting entirely in LA despite how expensive it is.

He refused any test screenings and insisted on premiering it at the Venice Film Festival.

Got $20 million paychecks for himself and Phoenix (Gaga got paid $12 mil iirc).

Joker made so much money that a sequel was going to be made, and I can only conclude that either Phillips got too full of himself and got lost in the sauce making a bonkers sequel or he's just been fucking with everyone who demands more and more Jonkler slop.

The whole thing could also be another weird meta performance art thing that Joaquin Phoenix has done in the past.

How tf Gaga get paid less than both those guys? Gender pay gap is real

The movie is bad but Phoenix's performance is really good. His cartoon chicken impression is worth $20 million.

I'm saying cause Gaga is the bigger star. Any male talent of her status would be top billing and highest paid.

she was pretty bad as an actress imo. haven't seen her in anything else. or maybe i'm just subconsciously biased cuz i heard she's a zionist?

Yeah but acting ability never had anything to do with billing or pay when fame was involved

Considering how dogshit and pretentious the first one was, I really think people are giving him way too much credit with this (basically) conspiracy theory..

A $100 million dollar payday from a surprise hit can for sure break your brain and make you feel like you can do no wrong, so not discounting that either.

Joaquin Phoenix insisted on actually doing this to get into character

Lady Gaga don't come cheap

Especially since they had her record like an entire album for the movie

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago (2 children)

She made an entire album? Damn

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago

Pretty sure, I remember them pushing it onto Spotify a week or so ago

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

The movie is all covers. There is like one original song.

I bet the movie might be 10x better if the budget had been 1/10th as much which is ~$20m. Hollywood budgets can be like the F-35 program. Throwing gigantic amounts of money at problems can make the issues worse.

Heard rumor the suits didn't like how the first one was kinda of radicalizing / jokerfied people.

I haven't seen the second one yet. The trailers drfinatrly make it lookmlike a mind fuck, which I'm down for.. but I don't have an opinion good or bad on it yet. If it makes porky-scared-flipped in the follow up to the oscar winning "I killed those wall street guys" speech...well shit I'm sicko-intrigued

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago

There is no mindfuck. They sing 20 Frank Sinatra songs, mostly in earnest.

Is it really that bad

Like I know if you get a musical and you aren't expecting a musical that's uh... Not good but if you know what it is going in, is it still shit?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago

Yes, it is that bad. It barely even qualifies as a musical. None of its music is original so none of its music really matches the scene. It felt like Suicide Squad, slop with licensed music on top, except even more boring.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

gonna see it on Saturday so remind me and I'll let you know.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago

See if they'd made it $400 million I bet it would've done better.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

what did they spend it on? LOTR trilogy cost 150 mil (admittedly in 2000)
