okay so the guy with the rifle was not a would-be shooter?

why are they doing the America 250 years thing a year early? its 1776 not 1775. I legitimately don't understand.

went to a "No Kings" event today. saw a sign that said

NEVER FORGET GHORMAN

and that was my queue to leave. tho there was an indigenous woman in traditional dress and that fucking ruled.

can confirm that at least one of those locations has some pretty good farm land.

Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has fully mapped the entire lunar surface, far side included! you can even look at the moon on Google maps/earth.

watch the Wide Maya visit to Burkina Faso. these cars have been out for a few months now. they also have built state owned(?) tomato processing plants to start export finished goods rather than raw goods. the government has also engaged in a massive infrastructure (paved roads) campaign.

a (white) friend of mine, probably the least sinophobic person I know (maybe even sinophilic), dropped a slur

CW: slurchina + man
out of sheer airheadedness and ignorance, in new company. it was in reference to their chinese ex. they were with their partner traveling to visit/meet that partner's old roommate and her (black) girlfriend. they realized in the moment that it was not an appropriate term to use and apologized profusely (bumbled that too but I'll skip the details). Afterward there was a lot of talk about the incident by the other 3 involed. Now my friend's partner (obv quite embarassed) will not be having my friend around any of her friends for the forseeable future because they "can't be trusted to keep a safe space for black people"

this friend already has deeply seated issues with shame and white guilt and this incident obviously severely exacerbated that. It's fallen to me to help them through this. While I understand their perspective and believe this was just a stupid brain fuckup, there's some complaining from them about having received zero grace and about unrealistic standards of language "policing" that I think need to be deconstructed a bit.

This person is very much an ally but deeply chaotic/anarchic (Think Jacques Gonsoulin). Hopefully this can be a wakeup call that what they say does actually matter and they can learn to be a bit more careful from now on.

what can I say but yikes? like godamm, what a mess.

what's there to learn beyond just buying existing product?

I'm comfortable tinkering with hardware and software, it would be nice if that meant a drone with fewer backdoors.

this is so sad sadness

Only done a few lessons and it's much better than the previous app I tried, Mango Languages (it was free through my library). Hello Chinese is much more holistic in its approach, and starts with more simple sentence structure and repition.

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize it was total bullshit and start to really understand evolution. it also stunted my development of critical thinking skills. I love science and the natural world so much, I still don't know if I can forgive my folks for doing that.

Shoutout to AromRa on YouTube for his creationism/evolution videos.

I have a library of movies, TV shows and music for local hosting. Right now I have a script that uses cp to copy newly added media files to a second, identical drive in another room as a backup. there has to be a better way to do this.

ignoring cloud storage and RAID, what are some command line tools that could ensure that the integrity of the files remains intact? assuming the drive continues to function properly.

These are almost exactly the same but it looks like the second has a few small supply sites not present in the first. It would also help to know the strategic value of a city one is considering moving to, as well as that of any rinfrastructure, geographical features, etc.

with the right (small-ish usually) dose, set, and setting it really is a mental performance enhancing drug. increased social performance, introspection, novel ideas, even some memory recall.

does this say something about my neurotype?

feel like I'm encounterimg tip requests with increasing frequency, but not jazzed about the prospect of adding a 20% charge at every point of sale.

It seems to be happening more frequently that I'll be listening to a pod that discusses current events (online & otherwise) and they just utterly fail to describe what the fuck even happened. Like they'll just obliquely reference some event and it's assumed the listener already knows about it and is tuning in for the discussion. maybe they'll actually explain but only after at least few minutes of comments which I have no context for and can't really parse.

maybe I'm noticing this becasuse I'm recovering from terminally online syndrome, maybe they're getting lazier, but It's happened in chapo trap house, wtyp, seeking derangements, possibly even true anon(?). Never citations needed though, they're goated.

If you're a podcaster and you're going to discuss some current event please actually relay what happened (who, what, when, where, why) for your audience before making jokes about it.

idk, maybe this is a neurodivergence thing. and yes I am actually listening.

I got a USB midi keyboard (pictured) from a friend but I don't know what software I should use to play it.

I'm running Ubuntu with KDE Plasma and am hoping for software that's simple to setup & use. the keyboard is for simple musical tinkering.

I created an account and am signed in on element, what's a good way to get the feel for things?

Any room recommendations?
