I still dual boot but I find myself in Windows less and less. Specifically what I use it for is a few games, Fusion 360 (my brother is happy with FreeCAD but it’s not what I’m familiar with), and I need to use Windows for OffSec exams because the invigilator software doesn’t work with Fedora.

I only realised that Windows was required for the OffSec exams about 6 hours before I was due to start, I was bloody glad I had that Windows install good to go when that happened (it’s a 24 hour exam, notoriously hard).

The Iranian regime are a bunch of cunts but they’ll never surrender. They’ll throw their kids to the wolves before they surrender.

This is just some glitch. They’ve not said anything about watching stuff locally becoming a pay thing.

Are we anywhere near being able to run this in a car? I want to hook it up to loads of stuff in my car and have a computer control it like Star Trek.

I’ll probably keep using it and see what happens. To be honest I’ll just go where the content is, and if the new people fuck it up it’ll likely go elsewhere.

I rushed to the comments when I saw a 1.6ghz CPU being called low end but I see OPs already been dealt with. I remember the first ever 1ghz CPU being an overclocked nitrogen cooled AMD Athlon. Me and my mates were all talking about it when it happened.

If you want to talk like that go back to Reddit.

I enjoyed this game apart from when your vault gets invaded. I found frantically trying to pluck your characters up to drag them round the vault far too fiddly and it made me quit in the end. Did they ever change that?

I thought this had been edited but it’s real.

I don’t know why all you guys hate the King so much. Canada doesn’t pay anything towards the Royal family except the cost of visits, it’s a purely ceremonial title. He has no power, and he uses his influence to campaign on the same things people on here like climate activism and access to healthcare. You may not like him but he’s a plus for everything we care about on here.

Is this real? And what’s 6th grade for someone who isn’t American?

I’ve dabbled with Linux and I’ve finally decided to try and switch to it for real, mostly because I’m starting a new job soonish that will require more Linux knowledge, but also because I’m getting sick of all the Windows privacy issues.

I’m actually liking it better than I thought. Taking an attitude that I’m sticking with it is giving me more of a drive to actually fix the issues I’m having rather than moaning about them, and it’s a good opportunity to learn.

The one thing I’m struggling with though is gaming. I’ve got a 2060S which I need for CUDA, but I’ve got the drivers working. I’ve not exactly been through my whole Steam library but I’ve not had anything running acceptably yet. DEATHLOOP, for example, on Windows runs at smooth at near 4k. On Wayland the input latency is unplayable and it crashes out every few minutes anyway. I improved it by switching to X11 but I’m still only getting 10-15 FPS when it was smooth in Windows. Even Skyrim has input latency and it’s clearly not running as fast as it should be.

When I check on ProtonDB for help I see no consistency in the settings people are using. Most of the time they just say Experimental, and I figure that changes over time anyway so it’s no help to me anyway.

Is there any helpful advice online as most of the time I just get told to try every proton version and fork until I find something that works? I’ve not even gotten into figuring out what stuff like Lutris is.

I’m on Fedora in case that’s important.
