I'd add that while I agree with your primary thought there, info should be free, it should also be tempered slightly by "don't be a dick" in that using Xitter links can be a privacy nightmare.
In that vein, making sure only masked/proxied links I think is more viable.
While I personally detest most screenshot style content that isn't explicitly meme specific (ie: the content itself, like stupid sms shots), I can ignore most of these. I just don't think banning them is worth it with the modding reqs.
I vote ban links since this already matches my personal ethos. I've blocked Xitter at my router for a year+ now.
That said, I think perhaps there should be a process potentially to allow for a mod to override the ban for certain front end links on an ad-hoc basis, in case there's a valid useful situation where alternatives are lacking. Examples being natural disaster etc...
If a mod can pin a flag to posts somehow to allow, I'd start that way. This could well prove useless, but I prefer to be prepared if it's not a huge burden to accomplish.
The oligarchs will just use that as another excuse to cut everyone's pay and for the sexual assaults.

I've been on Red a while. There's a weird moment of ratio there where it's easier to increase your ratio by downloading more... Caution needed obviously but it does get much much easier.
The past 2 years or so they've also started offering freeleech tokens more often. New years they dropped 125 with a 3 month timeframe! They only work for up to 2gb each, but 90% of downloads fit in there. Patience initially is key.
I'd like to get into Orpheus also, but more out of missing What.CD than anything lacking from Red.
