God vs Satan doesn't leave room for nuance.

The best I saw reporting in was a town of 800 in deep red Trump country with a turnout of 400. Wish I could remember the town. Faiy certain it was a rey on Lemmy but may have been bluesky.

Believing police in the USA are anything near well trained or disciplined is naive at best. This incident is only one amongst many of the police using their firearm irresponsibly.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/08/28/fact-check-cosmetology-vs-police-training-comparison-lacks-context/5653808002/

According to the state Department of Safety and Professional Services, applicants for a cosmetology license must complete at least 1,550 hours — or about 39 weeks if you assume 40 hours per week — of training at a licensed cosmetology school. The program must last a minimum of 10 months.

As of 2016, anyone who applies to be a law enforcement officer or tribal law enforcement officer in Wisconsin must undergo 720 hours, or 18 weeks, of training — even less than what the Facebook post claimed. The training curriculum for jail and juvenile detention officers is 160 hours.

As always please read the articles for the full picture and nuance.

Wisconsin is not an outlier in this. There are many jobs in the USA that take more training than the police which do not carry deadly weapons and have blanket immunity to use them.

That's what the protests are the beginning of, the US population has not had a very successful popular progressive movement since the 60s. We're rusty and the younger generation are inexperienced at this but we're gathering momentum.

They were some of the most inspiring people I met yesterday. It's great seeing people my parents age that are engaged and want to make the world a better place for their kids and grandkids.

I was thinking these leaf scoopers would make good improvised bucklers.

Same for finance. They've successfully socialized the risk of stock investing, why not governmemt coups?

I'm more concerned with the Russian and Israeli yokes around the necks of members of congress.

I didn't say you were wrong, either. :)

Vaguely related: I wasn't a fan of the Hogsbreath nickname folks were using. It wasn't targeted enough. I like Pete Kegs'n'Death.

I made the leap and ditched Windows and made the switch. I'm not married to Pop! OS, it just happened to be the first distro I tried and has been mostly a breeze setting up and getting used to but I do have a couple issues I wasn't able to resolve this weekend. Hoping someone else has seen similar.

  • Cannot add library in Steam: this is likely due to me misconfiguring the drive, mount, or fstab. When I try to add a drive in Steam it allows me to browse the drive and select a folder but then nothing is actually added to Steam. The drive was newly formatted with 2 partitions, both ext4. Unfortunately I am at work and cannot get blkid, df, fdisk, fstab, etc. but my hope was someone had found a better guide than the ones I have tried thus far.

  • Helldivers 2 audio issue: crackling and audio cutting out.; from what I've read it sounds like a throughput issue with the sound server (POP OS default is pulse audio). I came across a couple guides for troubleshooting audio issues with HD2 in Linux that sought to address this with pulse audio and others for pipewire but none of those ended up being helpful. Again, the hope is someone here has had a similar experience and can share what helped them or get me pointed in a good direction for troubleshooting.

I was going to buy a clown loach but the local store's delivery was delayed.

Edit to add: I forgot that I bought some bib coveralls on my way home.

Has anyone else had issue with nigh invincible harvesters marauding through all manner of bombardment? Shield down, I've seen them take every orbital and eagle without being destroyed. Not all at once, mind, but I have seen them take more than a factory strider and walk it off without even losing a shield antennae.

I've bullseyed one with a RR rocket and a full commando and they kept coming.

Any tips? I know the legs are a weakpoint but I don't seem to be hitting the right places. Laser cannon is the only reliable weapon I've found but requires multiple cooldown periods to fully cook one which is just too much time.

Recently planted this aquarium with stems and mosses. This long thin green moss-like plant showed up and I like the look of it. Hoping ot is something I can cultivate and use for a hanging vine effect on my driftwood and not a pest plant. Any help is appreciated.
