An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

The current community here on world will stay open. I have no plans of shutting it down unless the community decides it should.

Thank you all again for creating such a wondetful place,I look forward to seeing the community continue to grow.

I've created a new Lemmy instance at dullsters.net

When I created this community several months ago I had no aspirations of it becoming much of anything. In a short amount of time it has grown to over 1500 subscribers and is one of the top recommended non-political communities. I am always looking forward to the posts that are shared here, and the unique culture being developed.

I see the importance of the decentralized aspect of the Fediverse. We frequently see drama surrounding moderation and federation policies. None of that applies to the content in this community.

I have no qualms with admins running their site the way they want to and they are often placed in difficult positions. However, this is one of the true places of neutrality on the Fediverse and it should remain that way.

In the few months this community has existed there have been maybe a half dozen moderation actions taken. You have remained, for the most part, very dull, and I thank you for that.

The name of the community should be changed, I hadn't realized that dull men's club was the result of someone else's ideas and work. The new name should represent this community that you all have created and the place it exists, The Fediverse.

The new instance won't have any users except for the purpose of moderation, you will still use your account from a federated instance. I'm still ironing out a few wrinkles with the site, it should be done whenever I get around to it.

In the meantime suggestions for the new name should be made in a top level comment so that they can be voted on.

Thank you all once again for making this community what it is.

This is a tad embarrassing. You see, I thought that I was merely copying a popular Facebook group. I was unaware that Dull Men's Club was an official club. Please give the site a peruse as it is quite a delight!

Can also be used as a time-out zone for naughty toddlers.

I don't get why anyone would want to listen to this kind on noise.

Very displeasing I must say

Have owned the same pocket knife for a few years, and kind of got weirdly attached to it. Decided to pick up a sharpening stone, hydrated it as per instructions, and sharpened up my old blade. It cuts like new now!

Pretty proud of myself, never did this before.

I was quite excited as I've never owned a car with low enough kilometrage to have this happen before.

Me and SO went to a decent but not too fancy restaurant that had really good reviews, however the food was so bad that when the waiter asked if we enjoyed our meal we told them it wasn't quite as expected. We have never given negative feedback in a restaurant before and we aren't too picky eaters either, as we follow a diet and don't expect restaurant to put much effort into it. I feel kinda ashamed even though I know honesty should be appreciated, I'm sure they tried their best, but in this case a microwaved ready meal would've been a better choice. We didn't ask for discount but they gave it anyways. Phew what a stressful day!

I have Celiac apparently, and reflux, so I used ingredients with minimal impact on those.

And it's even in the quieter part of the office!

Used a 12 inch bit. It's a great workout, but really sucked when we encountered tree roots with it. Tomorrow, I'm going to set some posts in concrete using the holes.

The old one was hard plastic and over 20 years old. Pieces started falling off and it is also a bit too small for a family with children. The new one is made of bamboo and is way bigger.

had a good view at least

I'm absolutely not a pro at this. Post your plants!

OP pic is Chinese rhubarb to maybe replace my old plant, russet potatoes that were sprouting on the counter, wild strawberries native to AB I often see in our river valley, asparagus (cut down once already), chives. Further back box is next week's problem.

Everything under the evergreens (out of frame directly behind the fence) suffers and this old planter the old owners put in is rotting, so last year for this struggling stuff except the Honeyberry bush which I need to move anyways. It's big enough to survive in the lawn now. Rhubarb, saskatoons, raspberries don't do well in here. I'll salvage what I can. Smashy'n clover next year. Then new half buried kiddie pools with the bottoms cut out "planters" elsewhere away from those trees is the plan. Classy! I'll do neon green with the dinosaur pattern.

New cherry tree because my old one is about at the end of its expected lifespan and it's showing. I'll pretty up its space if it survives the winter.

Same deal here, but these are an experiment to see if these "CANADIAN HARDY -TAYLOR" Paw Paw (Michigan Banana is another name) trees from Quebec's Green Barn Nursery can really survive zone 3b. They'll get the burlap sacks over winter. Has anyone eaten these fruits before on Lemmy? Curious. Nobody has heard of them locally here I've talked to so far. https://www.greenbarnnursery.ca/products/paw-paw-taylor

The row will hopefully be purple and orange goth-ish Sunflowers. Or "Chocolate" I guess.

The grass mostly died beside the pine tree, so I'm trying clover. It uh, yeah it's thriving. I'll dig out more of the damned grass later. Very good result it'll be lower maintenance now.

Got a cheap new bed frame and headboard from china for ~$100. Not the best but it doesn't let me stub my toe.

And all I got was an automated email wishing me "well".

Not even a mention in a Teams chat, let alone any kind of reward. I used to listen to my grandfather and father tell stories of getting gold lapel pins or entire vacations for 5, 10, 15-year anniversaries.

My reward? I got put on a PIP last week. Oh, and our government has just decided that no matter how long you've worked somewhere, you'll only get one year paid out. If I was fired today, they'd have to accumulate 10 years of extra payments. Later this year, just the one. Which is what they're waiting for undoubtedly.

So, happy monday everyone! As a gift to myself I've decided to give extra little fucks about anything today.

EDIT: thanks for all the well-wishes, it's honestly appreciated! Warms my cold, dead heart a mite.

I park under a car port and the truck collects a layer of dust. It rained so I just backed it out into the driveway a bit. It didn't get all the dust, some of it's on there pretty good. I'm still gonna have to wash it.
