It's always awesome to see the community I created mentioned in the wild!

I also created !dullsters@dullsters.net as an independent alternative.

You can run a direct disk copy of a phone and then recover "deleted" data. You need root access to do it. I'm sure they have plug in tools to do it on most phones. Just don't give them your access password or don't use your old phone.

Just say that you brought an old phone in case it gets lost or stolen since you don't have cell access anyway, no point in bringing your good phone.

I mostly just use Ketoconazole shampoo (Nizoral) on the areas and leave it directly on without water for around five minutes. It has something to do with having oily skin, which is counter intuitive because it gets so dried out and flakes. I also believe it has to do with hydration, diet, overall stress levels, and even weather/environment. I also believe I have some kind of minor chronic inflammatory issue/ fatigue syndrome. I have considered changing my diet one thing at a time to make sure it's not a problem with dairy or red meat.

I have seborrheic dermatitis so not washing my skin causes a rash.

I think it depends on your area. There's apps like offer up and sites like Craigslist, and nextdoor. Mercari is apparently popular for apparel. Then there's sites like gumtree that are popular in other countries than the u.s. Unfortunately marketplace and eBay reign supreme for general merchandise but I still try to list on Craigslist but haven't gotten any sales on there in a long time.

It's highly recommended that you sell small items anyway. I've sold 6 CD's and a cassette tape this month. Some graphics cards, a motherboard, handheld game system that I repaired, etc. I have a small shelf with my inventory on it. I rarely do larger items, but I think I can sell the dresser in a day or two if it doesn't work well in my space.

If you have a hobby like video games or card collecting you can buy collections and resell what you don't want she keep what you do or sell games after you're done with them. It's fully scalable so you can put in as much or as little time as you want and pause your listings if you decide to go on vacation.

I created !flipping@lemmy.world as I resell as a hobby on eBay and marketplace. It's a good way to clear out stuff that you don't want or need and fuel your hobbies. I think it's pretty funny that the other user says that reselling is gross and goes on to explain that they buy and resell things for a profit.

I'm going out to the middle of bfe this morning to pick up some stuff I won through an online estate auction. I got a dresser for $1. I might keep it I might sell it for a profit. Nobody else wanted it and I'm saving the family the hassle of having to throw it away somehow and someone else might be really happy to have it after I clean it up.

I'm constantly getting down votes because of the community topic. I'm making sure that it's not someone habitually downvoting. If it were then I would refer it to the admins. People think flipping = scalping so ancaps and others kneejerk downvote. I fixed some broken consoles this weekend and now I'm going to re-sell them, but they don't understand that. Just like someone downvoted me for using an llm as a search engine to learn how to so something new.

Except that I wrote most of it first and had to fix problems myself because it was buggy as hell. It really only gave me the jq urI part.

Technically I had ai help me create this script, but I've made the script in python and autohotkey in the past.

When I'm researching an item I look up the current listings and sold listings as well as on eBay's product research page.

Instead of going to each page and typing in search and then filtering by sold, I made a script which takes a search term and opens up a new window with three tabs with the search already completed for current, sold, and research.

#!/bin/bash

# Join all arguments into a single string
search_term="$*"

# URI-encode the search term
encoded_term=$(printf '%s' "$search_term" | jq -sRr @uri)

# Open Chromium with a new window and search eBay
chromium --new-window "https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=%24encoded_term" "https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=%24encoded_term&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1" "https://www.ebay.com/sh/research?marketplace=EBAY-US&keywords=%24encoded_term" &

wait

Edit: added wait command, changed to chromium web browser, added --new-window and put all urls on the same command, changed to & instead of &&

The way this works is that it is placing the search term you enter into the url and just loading the url without having to interact with the search bar on the website at all.

If you look at the url when you search "baked beans" you can see the words "baked beans" in the url: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=baked+beans

you can then replace the words with different words and automatically load search results that way. I then created a helper script and bound it to a keyboard shortcut. So now when I press my shortcut combo it opens up a terminal and asks for my search term:

#!/bin/bash

# Clear the screen
clear
echo "eBay Item research"
read -p "Enter search term: " term

# Call your real script
~/search_ebay.sh "$term"

Of course these could be one complete script, but I haven't bothered to combine them and well it works on my machine. I'd love critique and please share any automatons you've created to help your workflow!

Discuss selling on different platforms like eBay, marketplace, Craigslist, Mercari, etc.

No, you don't have to be in the "hustle and grind" mindset. You can be a casual reseller, or just learn the ins and outs in order to get the best outcome from selling your own personal items. I've been casually selling on eBay for 22 years and am happy to answer questions.

once again, I'd like to share some real numbers and experiences with you.

On marketplace I sold 8? Items for a total of $280, I can't remember if this is totally accurate as I wasn't tracking these sales and deleted all the sold listings.

On ebay I sold 14 items for a total of $595.10 in sales which includes taxes and fees that the buyer paid. eBay took a total of $106.06 in fees and I paid a total of $129.69 in shipping costs not including packaging materials, my time, and mileage. In total that is $639.35 for the month.

I have had no eBay sales in the past week and only a few on marketplace. Currently I have 78 Items listed on eBay and 27 listed on marketplace some of them are crossposted. I gave up listing on nextdoor and offerup, but I'll try to list more on CL to see what happens.

I've been listing a death pile of stuff that may or may not sell, including a lot of cd's. Once I get to 100 sales and become top rated again, I will likely lot of a bunch of stuff and do auction listings or just donate it. I did pop by the habitat store yesterday and found a couple of items and got them listed when I got home. Nothing spectacular and definitely stuff that they would have never sold as it's just too specific. I'd like to keep my sourcing down to a minimum until I clear out a bunch of stuff as I'm running out of room.

Since my last post I had a 0 feedback buyer purchase a electronic device that was listed as "not working / for parts" I assumed that they didn't see that and bought it for the low price. I reached out to them and made absolutely sure that they were aware of the defects the item had and they were fine with it as I didn't want them to return it later.

Not a terrible month, hopefully this month I can sell more.

A decent introduction with good tips n tricks on how to take eBay photos.

I figured I would share some real numbers so that you can get an idea of what kind of money you could make reselling things. I've only gotten back into selling things in the past month or so. I've really only been selling things to clear out space and clutter in my house and some things for my parents as they are downsizing.

I sold 5 Items on eBay, 3 within a few hours of each other! One had been listed for over a year and sold after I adjusted the price down by a few dollars. After fees, ebay paid me $196 and I spent $48.14 on shipping (this included a sixth Item that sold late last Saturday night.) I also sold two Items on FB marketplace for a total of $90. $237.86 total for the week isn't too bad. I currently have a total of 38 Items listed on ebay 21 listed on FB and some listed on Nextdoor and I want to crosspost to CL if I have time, but the traffic just isn't there.

I've been breaking my own rules about Item value and listing things in the $10 range on ebay in the hopes that I can get my account back up to Top Rated by selling at least 100 items within 1 year. This will give me more protection against scammy buyers.

I also fought off 2 negative feedbacks this week! One had an item break in shipping, and they immediately gave negative feedback before contacting me to get a refund. The second person bought the wrong item, It was a new in package refill for something and they have a different model. I was able to get the first buyer to give me positive feedback after they got a refund and the second one changed theirs to neutral, which is better than negative. I believe eBay has changed the prompt to buyers asking them how their experience was, which makes people leave negative feedback without realizing they are grading the seller.

I've been selling on eBay for over 20 years. I created a community to discuss selling on various online and local platforms.Whether you're just trying to unload some personal items, or you're a full time reseller we want to hear your questions, successes, and failures.

This is a quick guide on selling items on eBay in the u.s. I've been selling on eBay for over 20 years and learned a thing or two. This is not a comprehensive guide, and by all means I am not an expert.

If you don't already have an eBay account go ahead and create one. New sellers will have limits on the amount of listings they can create and total dollar amount of sales.

Find a few items that you would like to sell.

We'll start by looking up each item on ebay and possibly other places such as Amazon to see what other sellers are asking. After that we will filter the search results by "sold" this will tell you how much people are actually paying for the items. You should consider the price plus shipping as a total price.

You should also check the sell through rate. You can see how many are currently listed and how many have sold in the past 90 days. If there are 1000 listed and only 2 have sold, then that is probably not worth listing. If there are 100 listed and 100 sold then there is a very good chance your item will sell in the next 90 days. This is just a rule of thumb and seasonal items can be tricky to comp this way.

At first you should consider items in the $20-$30 range that don’t weigh too much. Shipping cost is a big factor in how much you will net from the sale. Ebay takes a small fee plus a percentage of the total sale which includes the shipping amount you charge (if any) so you don’t want to sell items under around $10 or the shipping and fees could cost you more than you make. https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822#section2

Once you find a comparable item "comp" click on it to make sure that the listing matches what you're trying to sell, including condition.

Once you've decided what a good price is, pick a sold listing that has a good sounding title and click "sell one like this." That will open up a listing page and copy over a lot of information and the listing title.

Now you can create your listing. First, be 100% sure that your title is correct and that you're utilizing all 80 characters. You can do some seo here. Eliminate duplicate words and try to think of different words people might use to search for the item.

Photos: Photos are the most important part of listing, if your photos suck, then nobody is going to buy from you. They don't have to be ultra professional, but you should take some time to make them look good. Find some natural lighting and a clean surface with a nice background. You can buy a piece of white poster board and curve it up from the floor to the wall to make a semi professional background avoid using the background removal tool, it looks really bad.

This process is going to vary quite a bit depending on your preferences. I like to take photos before I start listing. You can also take photos from the app. If you start your listing from desktop you can click "upload from mobile" which will give you a notification on your phone where you can continue the listing and take photos if you haven't already. You can upload short videos up to one minute, the option is only on desktop and is burried. Very useful if you want to show item condition of a collectible figurine you can put it on a lazy susan and spin it around.

Item specifics, condition, and description: These just need to be accurate. Avoid using the AI description, it's terrible. Even just "in good condition" for item description is fine. People don't read item descriptions as ebay hides them pretty far down in the app listing. Your title, photos, and condition sections should tell the whole story as much as possible. If there's something important you need to say in the description you should put READ in the item title.

Pricing and shipping: As far as buying format, I always use buy it now, sometimes with offers turned on. I would avoid allowing offers for now. If you do allow offers, be sure to set a minimum offer amount. My shipping rule of thumb has always been that if it’s under one lb it’s ok to offer free shipping. If it’s over one lb I do calculated shipping. Shipping rates are determined by distance. If you offer free shipping on a heavy item, someone in Hawaii or Puerto Rico will buy it and you will lose money on the sale. Enter in your packed weight and dimensions. You don’t have to box it up now, but it’s a good idea to have a shipping box ready. Set the handling time to at least 2 days. If you set one day then someone will buy the item at 10 at night and you will need to ship it the next day.

At the very bottom there is an option to promote your listing. Ebay allows you to decide a percentage of the final sale. You can use this if you want, it only gets charged if the buyer clicks through a promoted listing. Generally I don’t use the recommended amount and only use it on rare items where someone outside of ebay might be interested in it.

Discuss and learn how to sell items on marketplaces such as eBay, Craigslist, Mercari, and many more.

You don't have to be a full time reseller, learn and resell your own personal items for someone else to enjoy.

I saw that a user was banned by moderator on my instance and their comments removed. I don't have a moderator, it's just me, I'm the only user. I thought I accidently fumble fingrred the ban button and restored their comments and appologize. Come to find out that they were banned from their own instance.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand it's good if it's a really bad user posting spam or worse. On the other hand it is a conduit for censorship. If an admin doesn't like what you post on another instance, then they can censor you everywhere. On top of that, it makes it look like I am banning people, and I don't like that at all if they're just making normal comments. It should say something else and I should get some kind of alert that lets me know so that I can decide if the comments on my instance are appropriate.
