MODERATORS

Hi folks,

as my current instance will shut down soon, I need to transfer the ownership of my tiny community to my new account on a different server. I know I can make my new account a moderator. But will the new acc then have 100% of the administration options that my current account has? Or will it only be a second-class role? I'm used to 2000er forum/boards where admin accounts carried way more privileges than mods. Like a mod could also never delete the whole thing.

I've got my own instance running and I want to federate with some instances and communities but I'm getting a Subscribe Pending error. I read everything I could find on this error but the fix on github from like a year or two ago didn't work.

For context, I got the instance running on server A, then tried to federate with a few communities. Then I moved the instance to server B, which was more stable, and then tried to federate again.

The domain is the same just literally rsynced the files to another server and got the container up.

I'm ready to commit to Lemmy full time and leave reddit. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

I'm running 0.19.11 for context, with caddy as my reverse proxy.

Edit: Even further context. This issue is happening on communites on instances that I had not trie to federate previously.

Set the language in the language selector to the language your post is written in

I get the error shown in the video when I try to edit a post. I get the error both on my phone and desktop

Specifically, how do I safely and properly clean up the '/lemmy/magick/' folder? Mine contains 44,259 files taking 405GiB in total. That is the vast majority of my humble server's 466GiB capacity. I am the only user on my instance so I don't know their source.

  1. Upload an image as part of a post or comment
  2. Navigate to your profile page -> Uploads
  3. Open image in new tab (and save the URL)
  4. Press "delete" on the image
  5. Attempt to navigate to the saved URL

This should result in a 404 error. Currently, it shows the screenshot. Below is a screenshot I deleted from my profile:

Here is confirmation from my user profile taken after the above screenshot was deleted:

I want to delete my lazy social account to start one in a different name. However I mod a community so can't lose access to the ban function. I put in a request for a second account on the instance and not had a reply. Any ideas?

I am writing to request the deletion of my account as the delete button isn't working.

I will be happy to provide any information regarding the account.

Thank you for your assistance.

My main account got banned from a couple of communities for wrongthink so now I have to suffer their posts without even being able to try to offer a different perspective. But the block community button is not above the sidebar where it normally is. Can I still block those communities somehow?

Where is this information stored? If someone is overzealous in banning users, does this create a giant, permanent file somewhere? (I hope this is the right place to ask; it was removed from Asklemmy)

hackertalks.com 0.19.11 - lone subscriber instance

lemmyworld.com 0.19.10 - ban and unban instance.

Single subscriber for a community gets banned, and a hour later gets unbanned. Since the subscriber is banned, the subscription appears to terminate. So there is no federation for the unban a hour later for that community.

note lemmy-federate doesn't subscribe if there is a local subscriber either.

Example community:

I made a post today https://hackertalks.com/post/9682461 which tickled some automod triggers, and got my account banned on at least two instances I know of. If i had to guess, the direct link to the paper pdf may have done it.

I'd like to be able to figure out the list of all instances that got triggered so I can follow-up with the admins to get my account unbanned. Is that possible?

It seems like some FOSS websites started using a Proof of Work CAPTCHA called Anubis because they've been getting hit by crawlers to gather data for LLMs. It seems like it helps.

It does not stop them, but it does make it more expensive and slower for the attacker. At the moment, I haven't seen any instance having this problem, but it most likely will be a problem someday and being praped for it is definitely not a bad thing.

Lemmy could benefit from this by maybe placing some invisible or auto PoW CAPTCHAs when doing some action like commenting, posting, etc.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Post a test image to my community, [email protected]
  2. Go to homepage, image is not expandable in-page and thumbnail doesn't show up.

Thumbnail works for articles, just not images. So doesn't appear to be an issue for post-rs. Clicking the image leads you to a new page which is just the image, instead of expanding in the page, as I would expect.

Example: https://altmedia.house/post/308

Not sure if this is an issue with lemmy-ui or lemmy itself. Probably the ui right? I look in the server journal and there aren't any errors.

Edit: I thought I would add that I did a 'from scratch' installation of Lemmy, not using Docker. I feel like given the posting behavior below, that I must be missing an environment variable definition that gets set by Docker that lemmy-ui uses in a thumbnail url or something.

Exactly what it says in the title. How do I find all modlog actions related to an user, e.g. me?

The ansible instructions state to run

git pull && git checkout version_name

but I don't understand what url to put there.

How do I join, I am so frustrated now because you are wasting my time. First it says I need a invite, then I think ok maybe if I create an account on lemmy.world. Then I do that and try but am being asked for a instance. All I know is I am trying to join https://lemmy.world/c/autism but now very much suspecting that this community will be unmoderated and hostile as well given how many tricks you have been using. Communities are either unmoderated or moderated but apply unwritten rules.

Let's say that someone moderates several different communities for related subjects. If they make a list of these communities and their respective links and descriptions, is it possible to post that list in one place (on Lemmy or elsewhere) and then embed it in the sidebar of each community? That way any edits to the list would only have to be made in one place and not edited in each community's sidebar separately. The goal is to have the current list appear in full in the sidebar, so linking to it would not achieve this, but embedding it would.

Thanks!

Hi

It seems that free speech is only an illusion on Lemmy servers.

Where can I post any comment on any post (even blocked Reddit posts) without being blocked?

Even hatred needs to be analyzed to get to the root cause.

Thanks in advance for pointing me to open minded and constructive discussions servers.

Hi there, I know that you're not able to fully delete a post/comment on Lemmy because of the way the system works since deleting something only seems to hide the content from most instances but it will still show up for yourself and give you the option to "undelete" it.

But it's pretty annoying to me to have all posts and comments I deleted still showing up for me in my profile section. Even though I know you can't fully delete it I was wondering if there's at least a way to also hide the content from myself and not just for others.

I'm just going through my past history, and looking for anything where the subject is "*Permanently Deleted*" and where the Modlog for that community shows nothing.

None of these appear in the modlog of their respective communities.

I've been told before in an earlier comment chain that this might be due to the post user being permanently deleted.

Is there any way I can verify this as an end-user? Once the post is gone, I can't see the username of who posted it.

It's just a bit of a small hole in the transparency of Lemmy's fantastic moderation

When not logged in, some instances have “all” by default while others have “local”.

Is there a config line to choose it?

I chose mine hurriedly and I'm not a fan
