idk man I went through the modlog and you kinda seem like a shithead. You admit to trolling vegans, you post some pretty ridiculous stuff, and go around explaining to vegans how to be vegan while saying that you aren't going to be one. It's kinda not really making your "I'm an innocent little user who was unjustly banned" case. It looks like maybe the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.

I mean pet food in general is absolute completely fucked. Like the standard kibble is awful, it contains random excess from animal ag (including, amusingly, a lot of plant matter), garbage from the grinding process including plastic, ash etc. It's bad stuff.
So the usual care and precautions apply, plus obviously it's early days and so you should be getting regular health checks. Of course you should be doing that anyway. Something that frustrates me a little in all this is that people act like everyone buying the random kibble and free feeding a cat is being responsible, but if that kibble was a different kibble it's suddenly abuse. That's basically just privileging that status quo, and nutritional inadequacies in "pet" diets are astonishingly common.
Anyway food allergies etc are a thing, so even if you were killing to feed a cat you should make any dietary changes carefully and slowly.
Only to the same extent as all pet keeping decisions. Like people breed pets, steralise them, make decisions about where they can and what they can do, decide what degree of medical care they get and so on. Any food is forced /shrug
Without evidence this is just slander /shrug
Although personally depending on the context I don't see an issue. Like if I go make a bunch of horrible, racist, "jokes" on shitposting or whatever and the beehaw admins ban my account from their server pre-emptively as I'm not of the character they want because of their bee kind policy. That seems... fine?
I can always make another account I behave in line with their goals on to participate in their server.
Well personally I do think we have a moral obligation to reduce harm and I don't see a good reason to privilege the life of one animal over another (humans included). Veganism as an ideology however is about what is practicable, and while it appears that cats can be transitioned it is very early days and can only be done responsibly if you are in a position to afford medical oversight and understand how to select correctly formulated foods.
As a vegan I am against pet keeping, but lots of abandoned animals exist and they need care there aren't institutions to provide so they end up in homes. I have a couple of rescue dogs living with me atm for example. In situations like this I think where possible we have a responsibility to juggle their needs and desires with broader harms. Like I don't let the dogs I care for hunt wildlife for fun, and give them enriching search games instead.
Abstracting away that death through food doesn't really change it.
But we're not insane, it's early days and while evidence suggests for cats its possible it isn't trivial and should be attempted responsibly, which nobody involved in this shitshow was claiming otherwise. The only people denying reality are the banned commentator who was saying that cats cannot survive on plant in the face of patient explanations by another user and the lemmy.world admin who tried to remove that user's comments in favour of the science denying ones.
Cheers, being a mod sucks. It's mostly reading vitriol, removing it, and then having creeps show up in your messages with vague threats or claims about how you're a megalomaniac.
I am an eternal optimist in my beliefs of human goodness and social ingenuity.

It started in a vegan struggle session, the fuel had been building for a while but that was the final spark. An explosive mixture of vitriol, resentment, and externalised shame flaired in an instant.
We don't know the inciting comment, it was lost with the original hard drive in the early days of the war. Everyone remembers something different, that's part of why the divide continues. Platters smashed, cables cut, keyboards melted to slag. Our desperate efforts to control the narrative, to determine who could post escalated beyond the digital. Beyond all reason.
We don't know the inciting comment, but as I wake in this blasted wasteland I sure as hell know the one that's going to finish it. metallic gun noises
Well you need to remove the excess fibre, reduce carb content relative to proteins and fat, balance aminos etc. It's not trivial, but quite tractable.
They are, but that's a term about ecology. In a natural environment they must derive their nutrients from meat because they are unable to get them from plants.
That's because they lack the ability to grind plants/process large amounts of fibre, absorb nutrients gradually etc. If you try to keep a cat alive on whole lentils or something they will get sick and die, however if you feed a cat pelletised mixtures of nutrients refind from plants they will be fine (as long as you include taurine).
Many commercial cat foods already use plant derived nutrients and synthetic taurine.
