That we were not part of "her protest". She was screaming that our protest was not official, only "her" protest was. In reality, she's recognizing the grip the Democratic party and its machine has held over movements like this is slipping and, locally, really has no place anymore.

Most worrying aircraft deployment so far.

Why?

If you are organizing a protest and there isn't a "next thing" everyone is being made aware of, the organizers are myopic and likely naive. If you're not building lists, how are you mobilizing for the next thing? If you're not doing direct reach-outs based on lists, how are you recruiting?

we are doing those things

We've been working closely with 50501 for a while, making strong relationships with the organizers and taking on tasks to help them get things done. Over time, we've gradually taken on more of that load and have gotten the corresponding say over the political line at these protests. We're setting the time, place, schedule, providing all the materials and labor, etc. It is our established capacity to effectively run events like this that allowed us to take leadership simply because we are the most effective at putting in the work.

I don't want to dive too far into the details, but essentially Indivisble started to realize this was totally out of their hands and scooped the 6/14 date as soon as it was announced, before we put up our own call to action. That meant they were getting their position out there before ours using their standard co-optation platforms. We utilized our own outreach capacity and carried forward confidently to put on a protest we thought could rival theirs in number and far exceed it in political consciousness, professionalism, and organization. The protests ended up being very similar in size, and their head organizer literally ran screaming into the middle of our action, tried to interrupt a speaker with the siren mode on her megaphone, then proceeded to have a full-blown mental collapse when the crowd was hostile to her. In the end, we came out looking like the far more competent segment of organizers and got a lot of interest from exactly the type of folks we're looking to connect with: queer, black, working class, for the most part.

To what end? I am essentially already a public figure in my city. Anybody can dox me as much as they want.

It's not hyper local like some town of 20k people, but it's not a quixotic presidential run.

What if that presidential run doubles the size of your revolutionary party? The point of engaging in elections is not to win power (cool if you do though!) but to advance your platform among the people. Elections are only the best way to do that under pretty specific circumstances both internal and external to the party.

You have to get them to attend an event that you organize

Maybe I'm not making this clear enough. Communists organized many of these protests. That's what we did locally. The No Kings/50501 branding is open for anyone to use, and we utilize it to get people to our events that we run and set the political tenor of.

help me out, where does political power grow from?

I've been enjoying Half-Earth Socialism and Terra Nil quite a lot. I'm looking for more games about restoring the environment and/or building socialism. Preferably, but not necessarily, something lightweight. PC or PS5.

Another banger from a comrade of mine. Our Akron unit has been doing aggressive works on multiple fronts in the city. Excerpts below, but there's much more in the article.

Akron’s mayor Shammas Malik often says, “Safety is the number one priority for our administration.” He said this as recently as Oct. 17, 2024, while announcing a decline in violent crime rates while standing alongside police chief Brian Harding. This was just a month after a chemical plant hidden in the middle of a residential neighborhood caught fire, forcing residents to evacuate. One month later, the Akron Police Department chased down high school freshman Jazmir Tucker and killed him with three shots to the back. The mayor has also offered no resistance to the venture capital takeover of the city’s non-profit health care system.

Police Violence:

Malik’s first city budget, passed in 2024, provided a massive funding increase to the APD. The new police budget totaled $92 million, up from the $78 million it was allocated in 2023. Police funding was increased under the rationale that “safety is [Akron’s] number one priority.” However, according to the APD’s own statistics, use-of-force incidents have increased by 38%. Between January and October 2023, 195 use-of-force incidents were reported, going up to 269 use-of-force incidents between January and October 2024.

For-profit acquisition of Summa Health:

Working-class Black residents will also be disproportionally affected by the acquisition of the non-profit Summa Health. Historically, Summa Health has accepted anyone regardless of whether or not they could afford treatment, making it vital for people who are impoverished and unable to pay for expensive medical care. In January 2024, it was announced that the venture capital firm General Catalyst would be acquiring Summa Health and privatizing it, transforming it into a for-profit corporation.

The chemical fire on Rosemary Blvd:

On Sept. 5, 2024, a chemical plant on Rosemary Blvd. in East Akron owned by SMB Products caught fire, creating a huge smoke plume visible for miles. An evacuation zone with a radius of 0.5 miles around the site of the incident was declared, encompassing multiple working-class neighborhoods. Stored on site were hazardous chemicals including methanol, xylene and propane, the latter giving cause for concern of explosion to firefighters on the scene.

Connecting the dots: a war on Black Akronites:

One thread unites all three of these stories from 2024: the victims left in their wake were and are primarily Black. Jazmir Tucker was a Black teenager. The purchase of Summa Health will disproportionately hurt Black Akronites, who are systematically and disproportionately impoverished due to centuries of racist policy. The neighborhoods surrounding the SMB Products chemical plant are majority Black.
