They're incredible aren't they? I saw one land in a field when I was on a hike and I had no idea how big they actually are!

We are so not surviving in the wild

If not friend, why friend shaped?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

I'm tired. I think I'm emotionally burnt out.

I was talking to a friend earlier today. Both me and my friend have played in bands in our youth, and were swapping war stories about those days. I was reminded of this fun anecdote:

There was one gig where the band I was in played at a tiny little all-day festival somewhere in Belgium, and the stage setup was really messy. The guitarist trod on the power cable to my keyboard, and pulled it so that it interrupted the power, but only for a split second. This reset it to its default settings, losing all the custom sounds I'd set up for some of the buttons. And, to my horror, causing it to play a samba demo song instead of the backing sequence I'd programmed when I pressed one of those preset buttons. This did not blend nicely at all with the gothic metal we were in the middle of playing.

Also, this was a summer festival and we were playing at the height of the midafternoon heat

... in leather trousers, big ruffle shirts and black mesh tops.

Have you ever seen goths sweat the white foundation off their faces?

Could it be the speakers? it could be subtle damage to the speaker cone that only becomes audible at certain frequencies or a combination of frequencies and amplitudes.

Nah not stupid 😊 "command" is a little ambiguous in the documentation.

I think it means any command you can run from the shell.

I don't see how noticing more of what's there is a bad thing, or magical thinking. It won't make more nice things happen, but being more observant of the ones that are happening is still a benefit.

Ooh I learned the word for this recently: frisson.

Congratulations!

I recently treated myself to this: a repress of one of my favourite albums. Having it with large, expanded artwork is amazing.

3
A Failure of Language, by Data Void (officialdatavoid.bandcamp.com)

Bear with the long intro, it's worth it.

EBM/electro industrial with some touches of drum & bass.

I finally got this album on vinyl. It's one of my favourites, and I'm so pleased I managed to pick up the red and black marbled pressing.

9
Decades V2, by Assemblage 23 (assemblage23.bandcamp.com)

I keep coming back to this song. It's one of my favourites.

5
I'm Falling, by SMP (2013) (wtiirecords.bandcamp.com)

This came up in the comments in another post, and I think it'd be good to have its own topic to discuss what this community covers and how it should be moderated.

I'm posting this publically because I believe this should be transparent to everyone involved in this community, and I'd like to invite my fellow moderators @Hermit_[email protected], @[email protected] and @[email protected] to give their opinions on what they would like for this community.

So, what should this place be about?

For my part, I would like this place to be inclusive of related genres and generally have an open policy to any discussion related to music, subculture, fashion and aesthetic. I am not interested in strictly defining what goth is or isn't, I do not want to gatekeep and I would like to foster an inclusive community, rather than an exclusive one.

As far as moderation goes, I intend to uphold the terms of service of the server this community is hosted on (lemmy.world) and for my part the only other term I would like to explicitly include in this community's rules are: no acceptance or tolerance of bigotry, examples of which include racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia.

Generally I would hope everyone will treat each other respectfully and with kindness. I favour a light touch when it comes to moderation: I'd like to see active and natural discussion without the need for moderators to step in. However, if someone isn't playing nice I would encourage people to report such behaviour and I will take all reports seriously.

To my fellow moderators: I would like to encourage openness about how we moderate this community. I would also value and welcome your opinions about how we go from here. If there are things we feel would need discussion I would like to make a public post about it in this community so decisions are transparent and it's clear what our concerns and intentions are.

Finally, I want us to enjoy this. It shouldn't feel like work or be difficult. If you have any concerns, worries or criticism of what I've laid out here please feel free to comment.

Razed in Black are making a rare live appearence at Resurgence Goth Night in Jacskonville, FL, USA on 26th April 2025.

This is my favourite poem by Dutch poet Hans Andreus. Here's the English translation:

For a day of tomorrow

If I die tomorrow,

Tell the trees

How much I loved you.

Tell the wind,

That climbs the towers

Or falls from the branches,

How much I loved you.

Tell it to a child

That is young enough to understand it.

Tell it to an animal,

Perhaps only by just looking at it.

Tell it to the stone houses,

Tell it to the city

How much I loved you.

But don't tell any person,

They wouldn't believe you.

They wouldn't want to believe that

Just a man

Just a woman

That a person loved another person so much

Like I loved you.
