That's basically what I do right now except I do have a domain and my ISP doesn't restrict inbound ports like 443 so it works fine.

Just trying to sort out if I want the headache of a VPS if I don't need it (costs, maintenance, point of failure, etc).

There's no real way of knowing what would have happened, but knowledge is eventually gained. Somebody would have developed nukes even if it tool a lot longer and we'd end up being in a similar situation eventually.

What added security do you get by using a VPS besides obscuring your home IP? I can definitely see benifits to not leaking your home address, but otherwise the reverse proxy and wireguard tunnels don't actually add any increased security for the extra steps. You could just host a reverse proxy at home, and any flaws Jellyfin could have in their app would still be exposed.

I'm not knocking your solution, I'm just in a similar place and considering if I want to go through the extra hurdle for a VPS if I don't need one.

Bring a pair of foam earplug as well. They weigh and cost nothing, and could be useful of they try to use sonic deterents against you.

When lunch time comes around I unplug my work laptop from its USB-C docking station and plug my phone in. Works prrfect with my ultrawide, keyboard, and mouse. Then I watch YouTube or Plex while I eat.

I seriously won't consider a Pixel until it can do the same. Samsung's private folder implementation is also excellent. I can have a second VPN in there. I've been wanting virtualization on mobile for a while and this is close.

This would likely be done through cell phone tracking devices like a stingray, not plates. I don't know how many people are in their cars at a protest.

I'm not the OP, or an American, but yes I think a lot of the world is looking at them and feeling that they're getting their comeuppance.

The problem is that America is truly too big to fail. Not that they can't fail, but they will drag the world down with them if they do. Global trade and global security is anchored to them, so while I want to see them slapped back to reality, I don't think we can afford for them to devolve into civil war.

I don't want to downplay sexual misconduct, but the issues we are facing right now are orders of magnitude higher.

You will never find a perfect point it time where life is good for and harmonious everyone. The 90s had their problems, for sure, but the USA wasn't tearing itself apart, or bringing in and welcoming in a new wave of fascism.

I'm only just now starting the process and "losing myself" is my number one concern and also held me back. I haven't started on any meds yet, but it's the next step and I'm dreading it. Any advice?

Because there were two world wars that mainly took place in Europe. America was never subjected to bombing or invasion, meaning their industrial capacity was never crippled. They came out on top each time and used their influence and strength to become the new superpower.

This is overly simplified of course.

Perhaps I'm a cynic, but a hell of a lot of us do want that apparently. I'm stoked about the lib minority, but saddened by how many of us still voted conservative.

I never said they needed one space per unit, but say, 10 spaces for the 50 units would have likely been enough to dissuade fears of the local residents.

Downvote me all you like but the place isn't being built now because of this decision, so the area gets nothing.

With Chromecasts being discontinued, increase in ads, telemetry, etc I'm wondering if anyone else is going back to old school HTPCs or if they have some other solution to do this in house.

I think the options here are likely:

  1. Rooted streamer (ie Chromecast, firestick)
  2. Android Box
  3. Mini PC

I'm actually most interested in experimenting with #3, a mini PC running KDE Plasma Bigscreen. Most of my self hosted apps can be run in browser windows, and a full desktop (while harder to navigate) is better than the browsers you can get on Android.

What is everyone esle, especially the privacy / de-googled self hosters doing for their media front end?

Looking at the charging preferences of the Steam Deck, which from my research wants 45W at 15v/3A, it looks like the larger model should work just fine. And with it being $15 USD / $18 CAD this could be an incredible bargain.

It's so new though I can't find any info on it being used with a Steam Deck. I'll definitely be grabbing one to try, as it would be perfect for my USB hub that sits by the TV.
