Alpaca pretty much allows running LLM out of the box on AMD after installing the ROCm addon in Discover/Software. LM Studio also works perfectly.

Image generation is a little bit more complicated. ComfyUI supports AMD when all ROCm dependencies are installed and the PyTorch version is swapped for the AMD version.

However, ComfyUI provides no builds for Linux or AMD right now and you have to build it yourself. I currently use a simple Docker container for ComfyUI which just takes the AMD ROCm image and installs ComfyUI ontop.

If it's just about self-hosting and not training, ROCm works perfectly fine for that. I self-host DeepSeek R1 32b and FLUX.1-dev on my 7900 XTX.

You even get more VRAM for cheaper.

Modded minecraft and Starsector are the opposite. Old java games freaking love linux, apparently.

It's less about Java and more about OpenGL. Since it was the only option for quite a long while on Linux, the Linux implementation is fantastic. On Windows, OpenGL was always the third API that needed to be half-assed just so you can say "it works".

Before AMD "fixed" their Windows OpenGL driver a few years ago, it was not unheard of to get double the frames in Minecraft on Linux compared to Windows.

Bought the Wolfenstein bundle in the last GOG sale. Almost done with Wolfenstein: The New Order. The german in the English dub is hilarious, somebody really had some fun while dubbing.

I also bought 1000xRESIST on Steam. No idea what to expect from that game but the ratings are really good and the trailer looked cool.

Also, there's another Monster Hunter Wilds beta this weekend and apparently the crashes I had in the first beta are fixed so I might get to try it this time.

I'm sure this is going to end great for the Last of Us 2 PC port. The port of the first game was already a disaster and they had all their people.
