it’s because we’re training so many Ph.D.’s and convincing them all that the only way to remain a scientist is to stay in academia. It’s not, and that hasn’t been true for a long time.
What's the alternative? Go work for the military? A corporation?
If I was a scientist I'd sure as fuck want to work in academia.

I don't look up bugs very much but I'm jealous you got to do my childhood dream of entomology in some way.
Can you add keywords such as prominent authors, publication names, terms only researchers would use etc? If you've been doing for a long time don't you have resources to start from such as works you've relied on previously? And there is always the trick of using the date search feature to exclude the past few years.
Is it possible that you have progressed in the level of work you are doing such that purchasing published resources rather than just typing the name of a creature into a searchengine is required? Maybe you would always have gotten to this point?
I agree with your overall point though. I would like to see more development in bespoke community search engines comparable to the fediverse for social media. If you and other people who are in your field could create your own search indexes from sources which are reputable. They could even have federation.
having a hard time contemplating this. imagining a time in the US when something like heating was collectivized instead of being left to the individual to manage. sounds like a pretty big project to design and implement.
I don't vape but I got interested a few years ago so I looked into it. Pretty well convinced it is likely an extremely viable harm reduction tool to reduce cig smoking which is a scourge on the working class. Particularly people who have certain mental health or cognitive situations that make nicotine super attractive, and even helpful.
There are great arguments for strong regulation of course. But the anti-vape activists have various problems. Moralism, misanthropy, bad logic, lies. Many of the problems ascribed to vapes are clearly failures of regulation that could have been avoided, not inherent features of the chemical or devices.
Hope you manage to find a 5 gallon bucket of nicotine to keep you for the next few decades.
How do you find the ear pads? Are they specific to the device or can I get generic ones for my cheap ass headphones? I tried to make some to replace the flaking gross ones I had but what I came up with is extremely funny looking and also doesn't work.
What part of the box is the cat going to pee on? Aiming error and they get the walls? I assume it'll be on the inside?
In that case it wouldn't matter how it looks so just keep an eye on the trash for an impermeable sheet material you can fix on the inside. Plexiglass would be perfect but see what the universe sends to you. Or you could buy something low cost like laminate flooring... go to a big hardware store and look around they have many different waterproof materials. Unless you really enjoy the process, or what to learn it for another project, I think doing some expensive elaborate wood finishing would be a waste. If you have already built it, it'll be a pain in the ass to now finish the inside smoothly.
