I designed the Joan of Arc campaign for Age of Empires II. I wanted to highlight her incredible victories and show that the English ultimately lost the war, counter to popular belief. Each scenario had a purpose, from escort missions to sieges, culminating in the battle of Castillon to end the war on a high note. 🖍🤖

Octopath Traveler 0 Hands-On Preview – Mayor Monster Slayer

Square Enix has steadily built Octopath Traveler into one of the most recognizable names in modern RPGs, thanks to its striking HD-2D presentation and engaging turn-based battles. With Octopath Traveler 0, the series isn’t just getting a new entry it’s getting a full-fledged prequel that dares to evolve the formula in ways fans might not have expected. Eight Fighters, One BattleOf course, the biggest draw of any Octopath Traveler game is combat, and Octopath Traveler 0 doesn’t disappoint. If the full game builds on the foundation laid here, Octopath Traveler 0 could easily stand out as one of the most rewarding turn-based RPGs in years. 2XKO's 'simple' controls continue to befuddle even veteran fighting game players despite being nearly identical to Marvel Tokon's

Despite (or arguably because of) its simple inputs, many fighting game players are continuing to take issue with 2XKO's control scheme. On its surface, 2XKO is a six-button fighting game with light, medium and heavy normals, two special buttons and a team button though it doesn't always feel that way. No matter which way you map out your buttons, at least on pad in my experience, the layout always seems to be unbalanced with the existence of two special buttons. But man this control scheme is not it. So what are your thoughts on 2XKO's control scheme and the lack of motion inputs? 🖊️️🤖

The Sims 4's latest expansion, Enchanted By Nature, has stayed true-to-form by messing up unrelated parts of the game. When Sims are being erroneously marked as pregnant they are, oddly enough, unable to take a pregnancy test. Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Departure Led to Square’s “Collapse”, Series Composer Says

Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square back in 2003, and his departure impacted more than the popular role-playing game series, as Square reportedly "collapsed" after he left. As reported by Automaton, the creator of the Final Fantasy series recently spoke on the NOBIYO To Isshoni podcast hosted by longtime series composer Nobuo Uematsu about their time together at the Japanese publisher. At the time, Square did not have a proper corporate organization, Uematsu-san recalled during the show, but everybody listened to Sakaguchi-san, whom he described as a leader. Although Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square over 20 years ago, the legendary game developer recently collaborated with the publisher again on FANTASIAN: Neo Dimension, the PC and console port of the JRPG originally released on the Apple Arcade service a few years back. Sakaguchi-san's touch is unmistakable in the game, so much so that it feels like a proper entry in the Final Fantasy series, as I highlighted in my review. 🖊️️🤖

Status: Preview, Findability: 3/5Keeping with all the hype of the ex-world champion, Gremlin bought the rights to produce a game based on the famous British Formula One driver, with Nigel Mansell’s World Championship. As a result, the game became one of the holy grail titles for the C64, one which many had been looking forward to including myself. Martin Piper for instance found a hidden talking head for Nigel Mansell – likely to have been used for the training segment. Warren Pilkington ripped the tunes as a SID (see downloads) and found 5 unused bits of SFX as well. So at long last – check out something of a Nigel Mansell game on your C64 for yourself as we close the case on a title that has haunted Games That Weren’t for 26 years and C64 users for much longer. 🖊️️🤖

The Brief History of Motion Sensor Aiming in Video Games

In this mode, you can look around from Link's perspective, and motion aiming is back. Motion Aiming is used, but unlike Nintendo’s implementation of Motion Aiming in the Wii era and Ocarina of Time 3D, you can finally use the Right Stick to move the camera. Here comes the recycled paragraph…and it also heavily relies on Motion Controls due to the focus on 360-degree flight. It is playable without Motion Aiming and you can turn it off in the settings, but you practically need Motion Aiming for traversal. (ironically, Wii U Gamepad works better there than handhelds)Unlike Intu-Aiming (which uses ADS for Motion Aiming), Splatoon opts for "Always-On" Motion Aiming. 🖊️️🤖

Pushing Buttons: Is there even any point in making more powerful games consoles?

Last week, my favoured gaming news site, VGC, asked former US PlayStation boss Shawn Layden whether he thought the pursuit of more powerful consoles was still the way to go for the video games industry. I am the least technically minded games journalist I know, and have often felt as if I was in the minority. To me, games started looking pretty great about 15 years ago and most of the improvement I’ve seen since then has felt incremental. The chief technological innovation of the last 15 years in games has been VR, and that turned out to have niche appeal. Also, I hear the Guardian has a very good online games section – you should check it out some time. 🖊️️🤖

‘Mars Attracts’ Sees You Creating Exhibits in a Human Zoo

Mars Attracts combines the Mars Attacks IP with Rollercoaster Tycoon to create a very strange and captivating zoo management game. Aliens want to capture people from different time periods and put them into a zoo for other aliens to look at. To make this more of a fulfilling attraction, aliens also can do experiments on the humans to see if they would make good rides. 🖋️🤖

Classic JRPG Remake Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Confirms New Script That 'Honors the Original Japanese Text'

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter looks like a ridiculously cool remake based on everything we've seen of it so far — but some fans have long wondered whether the game will simply reuse the old localisation from when Trails in the Sky was originally brought overseas by publisher Xseed Games. As it turns out, 1st Chapter will feature a newly localised script, as per the official pre-order information from remake publisher GungHo Online Entertainment. The thing is, the old game's English script has, at times, been accused of being an inaccurate representation of the original Japanese writing. It's not what we'd call a popular complaint — we happen to think the Sky games have a largely charming localisation — but it'll be interesting to see how this reworked script compares. Indeed, GungHo specifically states: "Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter features a new localization, ensuring an authentic and engaging experience that honors the original Japanese text." 🖊️️🤖

Tempest Rising accidentally launched a week early on Steam, and the publisher has decided to just go with it

Tempest Rising released on Steam on April 17 instead of April 24. The mistake had something to do with a seven-day early unlock period that was meant to start yesterday. Only those who pre-purchased the Deluxe Edition were supposed to be granted access, while others would have to wait for the full launch. 🖋️🤖

Grew up with Fighting Fantasy & Lone Wolf, loved their compact worlds. Felt more agency than in big RPGs. Modern games often feel mechanical; 80s/90s gamebooks had elegant, hand-written choices. Created Greymarsh & Bloodwood Dungeon as love letters to them. Would love feedback—free keys for honest reviews!

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves review: one last show in South Town

Uninvited guestsFatal Fury: City of the Wolves is the so-long-awaited-we-basically-gave-up-hope-of-ever-getting-it sequel to the legendary Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Garou was something of an experiment akin to Street Fighter III, taking place 10 years after Real Bout Fatal Fury (but crucially not Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers). Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’ menus look like they were made in Microsoft Paint, so I knew it would be a banger from the moment I first launched it. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a game I’ve been waiting for for a long, long time. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves was tested on PC. 🖊️️🤖

I recently re evaluated my choice to buy this game and I'm having a blast, I found the game far more generous than PoE 2 (though I like the poe graphics more)
