In California Brook Trout is non-native, but we have a Heritage Trout Challenge where anglers try to catch six of the native trout species in their native streams. When somebody completes the challenge they get a custom certificate showing the species they caught and dates. So far I’ve caught one - California Golden Trout.

Interesting do you just sub buckwheat flour? I’ve had Ethiopian injera, which is like a sourdough Teff crèpe.

There are many factors leading to destructive wildfires. Probably the biggest one is power lines through vegetated areas. Another might be allowing building on hills. But I don’t think people were pushed out into the hills by zoning. It’s all about the view.

Thanks. I’m obviously not a lawmaker. I think older rentals (30+ yrs) should revert to public ownership - the profit has been made and all the rent needs to be reinvested to keep or replace the structure.

Anyway the idea is corporate and foreign ownership is the problem. I don’t think tax is enough - that may just raise rents even more. There needs to be actual blocks from ownership - not an open bid process. Otherwise the rich will out bid us every time - in rent and in ownership.

I think the zoning is not the complete picture. Our houses also cost more because we have to design for seismic safety, energy efficiency, and fire mitigation. It’s the building code.

They built a big high rise apartment right next to the light rail station near my house. The commercial space on the ground floor is vacant, and so are half the units. It’s been like this six years… But it has a rooftop pool. The units are crazy expensive and it’s run by a corporation. It was allowed to be built but it’s not benefiting the neighborhood, nor is it reducing prices.

There’s only one thing we need to do to drastically change the housing market toward affordability: Only residents can own property in California - and only 1 property per taxpayer. The housing “problem” will disappear overnight. The only problem is greed and it is happening everywhere.

Likewise any time you think about something from the past, it could be the last time you ever think of it.

Commercially grown mushrooms wouldn’t be possible without vast amounts of manure, which is a byproduct of industrial animal agriculture. I fail to find a clear distinction between manure and leather, which is also a byproduct of meat and dairy production.

Personally I don’t eat dung mushrooms because I don’t like the taste. I was just providing information so those who want to choose can know.

You can get a lot of Vitamin D from sunshine and mushrooms. For mushrooms, the common type is usually grown in the dark on dung (an animal product), while many others are grown on wood or in symbiosis with tree roots. If the mushroom does not experience UV light, the vitamin D may be low or negligible.

For those who don’t know the early symptoms also lead the severe symptoms by years. If you experience loss of smell and constipation, go to your doctor and get checked.

But they could afford to buy beef from better sources. They could afford for their employees to have a career instead of a job. They could do that and still cost less than McDonalds. Yeah they’re alright compared to the big corporations but they are not improving the world - they are extracting profit from it.

If that is the case at least it could radicalize your daughters to fight for human rights. Even that would be a better outcome for your family than suicide.

You are going through a tough time like I will never know. Just know that at this time you are free. You are not bound unless you bind yourself. And that means you can choose what to do next, and your choices may improve your situation. You are in a mind prison but I cannot break you out. I’m just showing you that the door is open for when you choose to walk out.

Current mainstream mitigation measures may be insufficient to halt sea-level rise, implying that radical measures may be required. Geoengineering—which can be described as a mechanism to mitigate unprecedented sea-level rise—has garnered scientific interest in line with the present state of climate change. This study investigates traditional and modern geoengineering techniques through a systematic literature review. The results suggest that conventional and pioneering techniques can decrease sea-level rise, and those optimal results would be achieved through the cooperation of methods. Ultimately, findings from this review informed five strategies: tactical application of conventional geoengineering; optimisation through technique alignment; adaptation to receding coastlines; a global platform for project collaboration; and progression of research capabilities. These strategies, in turn, informed a procedural guideline for policymakers who seek to mitigate sea-level rise.

Precipitation enhancement, commonly called “cloud seeding” or “weather modification” is a scientific method to artificially stimulate clouds to produce more rainfall and snowfall than would be produced naturally. The primary mechanism is to inject substances, such as silver iodide or ice crystals (cloud seeding agents), into the clouds, enabling snowflakes and raindrops to form more easily. Various cloud seeding programs have been operational since the late 1950s. The majority of programs continue for a number of years during winter months and as conditions warrant. The following is a summary on previous cloud seeding programs in California.

“The biggest thing with comfort is that I can lie in my bed and use [the Link]. Any other assistive technology had to have someone else help or have me sit up. Sitting causes stress mentally and on my body which would give me pressure sores or spasms. It lets me live on my own time, not needing to have someone adjust me, etc. throughout the day.”

When I go to iknowwhatyoudownload.com, a bunch of stuff shows up for my IP that’s definitely not being downloaded by anyone in my house (foreign language torrents). Aside from that my router (AT&T Arris BGW210) needs to be restarted about once a week, due to some kind of dhcp issue. The most recent event seemed bad - none of my devices had internet, they could all talk to each other, and my ONT activity light was flickering steadily. During this time I had no access to the router, even plugged in directly to LAN. Fixed by a restart but no idea what was going on.

The DHT torrent thing has been happening for months and the router thing could just be that AT&T sucks. I have no other evidence that something is wrong.

I could buy a firewall and put it downstream of the AT&T equipment.

I could switch internet providers, get a new IP address and router, and see if that fixes it.

Should I try to figure out what’s going on or just keep restarting the router once a week and ignore the DHT hits from my static IP?

Digital globe (self.shitty_million_dollar_ideas)

A really expensive internet connected globe. Like most globes it would have its axis on a tilt. Except this one would also show a live view of day/night, and also the clouds from satellite imagery. When you touch the base you can scrub back and forward though the past 24 hours of images.
