**EDIT: ** I was a bit frustrated while selecting language in a post and created this question quickly on the heat of the moment and didn't realize I created it in the wrong community, sorry. Thanks to the kind and helpful people that replied.

I can't tell enough how frustrating it is to have to select the post language every time, I would like to set it to English by default instead of explicitly having to select it every time, is it possible? I am using the web interface of https://lemmy.ml/

Not really, I like Delta Chat because the usability, no other app gave me the same peace of mind and reliability in bad connectivity areas (which I find myself often)

As for the family and friends that use it with me, they certainly don't use it because encryption and privacy, I don't even advertise the privacy and freedom much or try to make them uninstall whatever other apps they use for chatting, they use it because it is the way to reach me and it solves a problem for them.

And Delta Chat is not XMPP, at least for now

Yeah and they will not know it exist until you try it out and let them know about the app and help them try it out and get in contact with you.

Unlike WhatsApp that has millions to throw in marketing, come preinstalled on devices and by know "everyone uses it" other smaller projects that are not making money out of you need your help to do the "marketing" part

To show you that it doesn't have to be a forever alone experience, in your case perhaps it will be, if you are the kind that have to run after the people close to you and accommodate to their requirements for them not to leave you behind and forgotten perhaps you are already alone...

I would say this is the normal behavior and without this apps wouldn't work properly or connect in background, ex. to receive messages in chat apps and display a notification ex. when the system wakes them up via push notifications

I am using Lemmy as the official community for my ArcaneChat project (https://lemmy.ml/c/ArcaneChat) I do announcements there when there is a new release sharing "what's new?" etc., this gets federated to mastodon/fediverse but when people reply to the post from mastodon the comments doesn't show up in the community (see https://lemmy.ml/post/27324077), is this normal? I am doing something wrong?

Someone made a compilation of academic reviews and blogposts here: https://community.signalusers.org/t/wiki-overview-of-third-party-security-audits/13243 but none of them seem to be real security audit reports, ex. compare with real security audits to Delta Chat: https://delta.chat/en/help#security-audits

Changelog:

  • Allow to add a shortcut to any chat to the home screen (long-press the chat in the chat list and use the "add to home screen" option from menu
  • Add "Donate" section in app settings
  • Disable experimental broadcast lists for chatmail since they are unencrypted/unsecure and don't work at all with arcanechat.me and other servers that doesn't allow unencrypted messages, the option is still available for classic email accounts. This feature will be reworked in the future to be secure encrypted channels with more features.
  • Hide dangerous Encryption settings in Advanced settings for chatmail accounts which could be misused by inexperienced users
  • Update app core to 1.155.5
