Plenty of people initially responded with sources and thought out texts. You got negativity when you decided to ignore those, act as if you had not received them and then solely engage with low effort dunks like mine own. You are not owed respect, you earn it by being respectful

Oh yeah I'm a big believer in the humanities, I just like bullying my friends who insist they're not a branch of linguistics or semiotics or what have you (as if that's a bad thing)

You are being rude in the way I've pointed out. Engaging in this discussion, but ignoring points you dislike is rude. You are doing this in this very response here.
By being rude you appear as a dipshit. You therefore receive uncivil attitude back. If you were less condescending about your way of interaction, then you would receive kinder responses. You are not owed any cool jets, when you yourself are behaving poorly.
Go look thru the linked thread to learn how you actually behave in a civil chat.

Let me engage in my own time.

"Your post" lol buddy it's a public forum and the block button is right there. Let me point out how you're being obvious in my own time.

For someone who is curious its very odd that you only respond to the people giving low effort dunks, rather than those answering your questions. Get it together.

Also

It worked like a charm

rage-cry <~ you

Edit: coming back to this comment because I remembered that comic about a guy shitting his pants and then being proud he's "owned" those around him who are mocking him

[–] [email protected] 23 points 4 months ago

I'd love to see it smuglord and then "oh i have so many notifications haha" wojak-nooo and now silence.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I feel like debatelord is pretty self-evident, but there's other ones like smuglord where I agree. Gonna change it to debatebro though

[–] [email protected] 58 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (11 children)

You've gotten barely any notifications and you decide to engage in discussion against something before you've read them. That's not exhibiting curiosity. That's being a debatelord. Responding exclusively to this one is also very telling.

The video is barely 2.5 minutes long. I thought you were curious, yet now you decide to put off answers to your question so that you can continue making pointless comments.

This is uncivil, rude and honestly poor behaviour. I hope you rectify yourself.

Operating on the assumption you're just a debatebro, why do libs like you give this one event, where the narrative is so twisted it's visible for anyone who looks the least bit into it, so much weight, when the United states police regularly run over protesters? This picture is used to illustrate a systemic critique of China, yet these events occur commonly in the west and people like you treat it like it's suddenly some complicated situation.

Edit: On the off chance you're genuine, we had someone much kinder than you stumble in a few days ago with the same questions. I will point you to comments from there to give you reading material
On Ukraine
And on tianamen and the Uyghurs

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

Yeah, he was honestly a pretty good actor. Loved him on iasip. Also they live had a long fight scene because he and the other guy insisted on it lol

[–] [email protected] 54 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (13 children)

::: spoiler You've already gotten it linked 25 minutes ago before you made this comment actually. What's that about? Why don't you engage with material provided yo you? Almost like you're not actually curious.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Rhetoric is just linguistics for people who dont wanna say they study linguistics and they get mad when you say this

:lonk: click lonk for psychic damage

Every time I hear someone speaking Dutch, for a brief moment I think I’ve had a stroke. It sounds so much like Danish, but it’s completely incomprehensible, like someone speaking in the room next door. It’s almost as bad in writing, because there I can decipher it, which makes me doubt myself more.

I used to speak Spanish fluently (it was a mix of many South American dialects because of my family), but I’ve forgotten it because I haven’t spoken it in several years. I really appreciate being corrected or any general help. I really want to refresh my idioms and expressions and that kind of stuff. Like slang, you know?

introduction
I was inspired to make the request followning this little interaction
I like hexbear and I like the community here, most of the time. Generally. I guess I like it too much, because I'm on here a lot.
I just enjoy the fact that I do not need to hold my tongue here, I don't get odd glances when I say it's funny a bunch of redditors volunteering in Ukraine got hit with missiles because they couldn't log off. I don't have to condemn hamas, I don't have to pretend like genocide is nuanced, I don't have to constantly deprogram people from obvious propaganda.
One thing I don't really find I discuss on here is conspiracy theories though. It's not that the site is unwelcoming for it, they show up from time to time, but there's no dedicated place for it. I think it would be nice to have that. Sometimes I go through old posts and it's wild to me how much suspicious stuff we find, but never really compile. Once in a while we compile things like this about the Uyghur genocide but they tend to disappear too. Same goes for individual users efforts like @[email protected]s great little comment compiling a few articles about the US drug trade disappear too, either because they are forgotten or because the user deletes their comments. I know @[email protected] has had several accounts doing immense amounts of work debunking "common knowledge" and I've seen him get called a conspiracy theorist plenty of times.

My motivation for it being specifically a conspiracy comm
I'd like to have a comm that's dedicated to discussing and compiling these things, so it's not just something that shows up once in a while in a comment chain and is then gone and forgotten. I'd like for it to be a resource we can all use and maybe also something that forces us to investigate our own beliefs from time to time. I know at least one user has made some effortposts about 9/11 that made me question my own worldview.
The comm would be a place to discuss and ask about things that are treated as conspiracies, actual conspiracies and things users find suspicious in general (for example the POC man who got lynched this year)

What's important to me about making a dedicated comm is that on all other websites communities dedicated to these kinds of discussions end up being incredibly reactionairy. Everywhere else conspiracy communities inevitably (and almost immediately) decend into discussions about lemuria, planet x and all bad things are blamed on DA JOOS. That sucks.

I'd like to be able to talk about actual conspiracies too, the ones we might not agree on. Things like the Brabrant killers, ISIS' connections to the US, MK Ultra, Operation Gladio today, Adrian Zenz, Jeffrey Epstein and actual possible pedophile rings, Bohemian Grove and, yes, the deep state (here I'm thinking of things like the son of one of the orchestrators of The Business Plot becoming US President).

for you who think believing/caring about conspiracies is sillyIf you're against the idea of conspiracy theories, consider the following: The idea that political activists are disappeared is seen as a conspiracy despite things like ferguson leaders dying. The "Uyghur genocide" being cooked up by the US state department is seen as a conspiracy zenz. Think of all the coups that were called conspiracies. epstein not killing himself is a joke.
The Nord Stream Pipeline being blown up by the US is a conspiracy. People being tortured at a black site by Chicago PD was a conspiracy until it wasn't. Hell, Ukraine being full of nazis and corrupt is treated like a conspiracy.

for you who thinks this just sounds like regular discussionsIf you're thinking "well that just sounds like the news comm, you're just discussing world events" I'd say I can see where you're coming from, since you're a strawman I've built with my own words, but I also disagree. The purpose of the comm is not to discuss current events, but to compile all the many news reports that are then forgotten. We like to say libs have a memory of about 2 years, the purpose of this comm would be to draw on the large memory of our brave powerposters... I dunno, I had good words in my brain but they disappeared at the keyboard.

I'd like to mod it and I'd like help to mod it as well. I can imagine there would be a demand of certain subjects being off limits and I'd be fine with that within reason. I don't really wanna have a flat earth society showing up either and I don't think chemtrails would be welcome either, though that one is closer to being founded in someone being critical of the government at least.

Tl;dr I think it would be useful and good. We all individually have to run around with our own bookmarks debunking various claims that are treated as conspiracies. This could function as a compiler. We all still have a bunch of stuff we consider common knowledge that is actually just propaganda/psy-ops. It would be healthy for us to have a place to get challenged on that common knowledge. A conspiracy community on hexbear would also function as a safe space that could invite in new users that are interested in conspiracies, but don't wanna hear racists reactionairy drivel or talk about flat earth.

About a year ago some user on here who shared a lot of interesting stuff on different conspiracies, shared a link to a website about jonestown being a CIA psy-op. It was very detailed with a lot of image analysis, old reports and news stories.
It also went into detail with voice recordings and witness reports that had been initially secreted away .and only made public years later.

I forgot to bookmark it and have been looking ever since.

I'm not asking for a report or something, but a link to this specific website. I feel like my mom talking about an actor in a movie, but I hope you can help me out.

If I were a big fat bird I'd totally get captured by two starving cartoon cats hiding behind a wall as they watch me fall into their trap (a picture of seeds underneath a cafe held up by a string)

There's a gourmet bakery near me. They always throw out really good bread, which I go dumpster diving for. Today they threw out cookies, I have eaten 2 so far. My mom is sick so I'm planning on giving some to her tomorrow, if they survive for that long.

I'm fairly new to dumpster diving, so if you have any tips I'd love to get them. I've worked in kitchens, so you don't need to bother with basic food safety.
