Looks alright. I'll probably get two or so, maybe retire one of the Ferraris to make some space.
Imagine straight bingo turned gay
DW is run by the federal government to further the image of Germany abroad. It is the equivalent in organization to Russia Today, Radio Free Europe and other government run foreign media outlets.
Russia Today is a pure propaganda machine that was proven to present false information as facts multiple times. I'm not aware of DW being accused of that outside of Russia.
I don't really care about DW, but the previous poster implied it's oligarch-run mainstream media. It's not.
I'm pretty sure it won't happen.
NATO is a huge driver for US arms sales because they have common standards that only NATO member states have access to (or rather are allowed to have access to). NATO equipment usually needs to be developed and produced in NATO countries. Nations aren't going to procure equipment that they might only be able to use outside of NATO context (exceptions like nuclear participation apply).
This is just another piece aimed at their constituents. The US basically founded NATO. Nobody forced them to spend the money they did. It was a way to project military power worldwide. You wanna throw all of that away for some Russian money? I think this is where the MIC would get really worried.
And while everyone here knows this, this bill again paints a completely wrong picture. The only bill that was paid apart from military readiness was Afghanistan, when the US - not any other member - invoked article 5.
DW is not mainstream media owned by oligarchs, it's funded by taxes.
Yeah, this is the thing that's ignored because it would let the whole narrative collapse.
Either you can't deport them because they're American citizens, or you can't deport them because they're not subject to your laws anyway. But in the end, this would just lead to (more) unlawful / illegal deportations.
Oh my God, it's the guy from City of the Wolves!
The alternative would be to install a jack on all devices, even in those of people who won't use it. Not very "green" ya know.
Ifixit score 6/10 vs Fairphone 5 10/10, probably same for the new model
No focus on ethically sourced components
I don't know why people ignore the raison d'être for the Fairphone completely when making these comparisons. You could just say "I don't care about those aspects", and then just ignore it completely because it will always lose in other aspects to its competitors
The Fairphone just isn't a device with mass appeal. It will always cost more compared to phones with similar specs. The ugly truth is that only exploration of labor made phones as cheap as they are. Once you pay workers fairly, price of everything goes up.
Second, a lot of people aren't looking for repairability. They care about having a working phone, doesn't matter to them if the device is repaired or replaced. With repairability though come restrictions regarding design (both visual and technical) people might not agree with, further limiting the possible audience.
Personally I'm surprised they were able to lower this gen's introduction price with how things are going; I'll probably get one after reviews are out, replacing my Redmi Note 8 as the kernel is no longer supported. Was a good run though, almost six strong years, love the device and cost me 130 euros back then. But of course totally different focus from the Fairphone. I was in a different financial spot back then.
Plastic is such a fucking disease. There are so few items you can buy in a supermarket that aren't somehow covered in it. I get it, it's super convenient. Which is why as long as it's legal, the situation won't change.
I think heavy taxes on plastic could change the situation; if plastic packaging isn't economically viable, alternatives will be used.
This would be totally unpopular I'm sure, so it will probably won't come before climate change killed us.
