While the situation looks grim in many ways, it's also the closest I have seen the Entity to collapse.

Explains why the US is jumping in when they are.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 10 hours ago

Stay safe, comrade meow-hug

Steel your resolve. May the brave Iranian people remain safe from the genocidal US Empire and the Entity. Looks like it's happening soon.

May you and your friends and family find safe shelter, comrades in Iran.

[–] [email protected] 67 points 1 day ago

Stay safe if you're in Iran. May the Entity and the US Empire crumble to dust.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Lmao, fair. My strategy is prefacing my guess with "likely" rather than making a definitive judgement. I've learned from my prior mistakes!

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Agreed. War between the US and China is extremely likely in the future, and the farther China leapfrogs the US the more decisive the victory will be. I agree with @[email protected] here, China will likely not allow Iran to collapse, but won't jump into a proxy war either, as satisfying and gratifying as it would be to see.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 day ago

The Entity bombed an Iranian news agency while it was live, and Iran hasn't responded with a major volley in retaliation yet. Coupled with this is the looming threat of US involvement and the appearing lack of action on the part of Russia and China. I can empathize with the doomerism, but I do agree that this isn't a situation to be doomer about yet.

The Entity is flailing around and begging the US to help attack nuclear sites, but as others have shown these nuclear sites are deeply embedded even if the US used several bunker busters at the same exact point. Plus, Zionist leadership is following Great Man Theory and believes Iran will collapse if they assassinate Khamenei, which is wrong, while settlers are scrambling to leave "Israel" as fast as they can.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 day ago

Great Man Theory.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

No problem, I wish you the best of luck with resolving whatever it is that's troubling you.

Hop in, comrades, we are reading Capital Volumes I-III this year, and we will every year until Communism is achieved. (Volume IV, often published under the title Theories of Surplus Value, will not be included, but comrades are welcome to set up other bookclubs.) This works out to about 6½ pages a day for a year, 46 pages a week.

I'll post the readings at the start of each week and @mention anybody interested. Let me know if you want to be added or removed.

Week 17, June 11 - June 17, we are reading Volume 1, Chapters 32-33, and Appendicies 1-2 if you are reading the Fowkes translation.

Finishing out Primitive Accumulation, and onto the appendicies! If you aren't reading the Fowkes version, you can use this as a break time, find the Fowkes version and follow along, or skip the appendices even if you have the Fowkes version. Well done!

Discuss the week's reading in the comments.

Use any translation/edition you like. Marxists.org has the Moore and Aveling translation in various file formats including epub and PDF: https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1867-c1/

Ben Fowkes translation, PDF: https://libgen.is/book/index.php?md5=AA342398FDEC44DFA0E732357783FD48

(Unsure about the quality of the Reitter translation, I'd love to see some input on it as it's the newest one)

AernaLingus says: I noticed that the linked copy of the Fowkes translation doesn't have bookmarks, so I took the liberty of adding them myself. You can either download my version with the bookmarks added or if you're a bit paranoid (can't blame ya) and don't mind some light command line work you can use the same simple script that I did with my formatted plaintext bookmarks to take the PDF from libgen and add the bookmarks yourself. Also, please let me know if you spot any errors with the bookmarks so I can fix them!

There is another reading group on a different schedule at https://lemmygrad.ml/c/genzhou (federated at [email protected] ) (Note: Seems to be on hiatus for now) which may fit your schedule better. The idea is for the bookclub to repeat annually, so there's always next year.

Looks super cool, sci-fi post-apocalyptic forever war, visible inventory, low-poly, single player focus, mechs, base building, spaceships, open-ended progression, faction choices, all of this combined makes it seem like a pretty ideal game for me. Looks to be coming into Early Access around July 2025! What are y'alls thoughts?

Welcome back after the Hiatus! Apologies for the delay.

Nearly a third through Volume I, and an eighth through Capital I-III!

Week 7, Apr 2 - Apr 9, we are reading Volume 1, Chapter 11-14 Sections 1 & 2.
