Yea i think youre right. Hegseth is just there as a yes man, and I dont think he considered that he would need an actually competent secretary of defense because he probably genuinely thought he could end the wars overseas. And you can see there is the MAGA base that doesnt want war with Iran, which some have pointed out here, is because they want to use the military at home.

The material reality contradicts with Trump's ambitions, and the US cannot become isolationist

Material conditions always prevail marx

Yea, reading the article above I also wonder how much involvement Israel had in the skirmish between Pakistan and India. Pakistan surely sees them as a threat and they must be doing the mental calculus of what would happen to them if Iran were to fall

I did feel Iran was doomed since the entire west is going to back Israel, and perhaps even get involved directly. But if Pakistan comes to Iran's help, that would definitely change things.

I guess Pakistan realizes the value of Iran as an ally when they too are facing an enemy in India. I actually dont know and am just speculating. I was always under the impression that the current pakistan was obedient to the US

Trump had said last month that the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours agreed to the ceasefire after talks mediated by the US, and that the hostilities ended after he urged the countries to focus on trade instead of war.

I love Trump's brain

trump-anguish : And then i told them, dont do war, focus on trade. And then they said wow, youre so right

Had a liberal tell me that I am "purity testing" Bernie Sanders for not calling whats going on in Israel a genocide. I really feel there's no point talking to these people unless its in person or you have a relationship with them flattened-bernie

Id imagine alot of people who are communists in the west started as reactionaries. Probably not as extreme of examples as you are asking for

But did any congress person face consequences for voting for the Iraq war? Our system has no accountability. They would vote for war in Iran then years later when its viewed as a huge blunder theyll just ignore it

Chuck Schumer: This is an abuse of power. We demand answers from the president!

trump-anguish : because I can

Schumer: ah, very well then

I agree with you, but I also wonder how Iran's economy is impacted? Isnt it also shutdown?

I think if you view the protests as the end goal, then yea they are pointless. Libs are mad and need a way to let out that frustration and the protests are the most effective way to absorb it. It doesnt require them to get too far out of their comfort zone or face the systemic question of how we got to this point in the first place.

As leftists i think we can view these protests as a sort of "career fair" for trying to organize people. We need to go to where the people are at and i feel like a liberal at a protest is on the path to being radicalized and forming a revolutionary consciousness, but there still needs to be some sort of nudge to get there. The nudge will have to be from another human being because social relations do dominate people's conscious.

Theres also a sense of solidarity that builds up when you are among others who are also sharing in the disatisfaction.

I really do see the general opinion of Israel shifting. I was telling a coworker, who I consider apolitical, about the Iran strikes and he put up a fist.
