This sounds too good to be true, are we sure this isn't the French equivalent of the onion?

[–] [email protected] 39 points 2 years ago (2 children)

French equivalent of the onion?

Nah, they're too busy drawing pictures of Mohammed.

The wikipedia article is a trip...

Charlie Hebdo (French pronunciation: [ʃaʁli ɛbdo]; meaning Charlie Weekly) is a French satirical weekly magazine,[4] featuring cartoons,[5] reports, polemics, and jokes. The publication has been described as anti-racist,[6] sceptical,[7] secular, libertarian[8] and within the tradition of left-wing radicalism,[9][10] publishing articles about the far-right (especially the French nationalist National Front party),[11] religion (Catholicism, Islam and Judaism), politics and culture.

Then the controversies section lists multiple times where they drew Mohammed making the same racist joke jfc

The publication has been described as anti-racist

Love having a magazine in which half the caricatures of muslims have flies around their heads described as "anti-racist"

Here is an open letter from a previous writer for 10 years there where he describes the racist turn Charlie Hebdo took after 9/11

French anti-religious culture is just implemented in the stupidest, meanest way imaginable. Jumping up and down screaming slurs at marginalized colonial subjects until someone throws a punch, then screaming and holding up their booboo so everyone can see how unreasonable the other is.

My gf worked at some vacation resort this summer and she had 2 people complain about the fact that someone was wearing a burkini at the swimming pool, one treatend to call the cops.

France is so fucking full with racists, like just let the woman enjoy the pool damnit

critical support for the shittiest interpretation of what a taco is

seriously though, french "tacos" are an affront to god. i'm all for culinary cultural exchange but this is just not it.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Tacos should just not exist in Europe. They're way too far from authentic tacos to get it anywhere near correct. America is at least right next to Mexico and has many Mexicans living in it. So our tacos range from decent facsimiles to good shit like local Mexican restaurants.

Still, critical support for Hamas Tacos.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 years ago

Weren't they invented by Algerian immigrants?

Learning about French tacos was how I discovered shakshuka.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

French tacos are a war crime

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Algerians having to re-label their food to remove association with Algeria would be extremely on-point for France.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Let's be fair here to the people of Algeria and their wonderful cuisine, this is a 100% french fast food monstrosity even if the one cooking it originally were from North Africa

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Understood. I apologize for slandering the proud Algerian people.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 years ago (1 children)

First, Hamas paragliding into Dorchester

Now they're making tacos‽

When will it end?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago

Until lmayo makes food that actually tastes like something.

People still use the "hey, Americans were scared after 9/11" excuse for that whole circus. MF it was 6 years after 9/11! And the PD never admitted they were wrong, the guys who put the signs up were brought up on bomb hoax charges because the fucking pigs shit themselves when they saw a lite brite.

Government fearmongering about imminent terroristic threats when they know they do not exist?

Sounds like American college campuses today. And the government but they’re the OG terrormongers.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

i want to say something about how it's illegal and heavily policed to have fun and be unusual in public but I'm not sure how. Wasn't there something with mario question mark blocks, too? And how every forgotten backpack gets called in as a bomb threat now?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago

And how every forgotten backpack gets called in as a bomb threat now?

Americans saw United 93 and immediately thought they were all gonna be badass heroes taking down the evil brown savage terrorists. Only problem is terrorism actually happens about a million times less than Americans believe so they have to resort to reading terrorism into everything.

They’re drunk off “see something do something” propaganda. Probably bolstered by the “any bag you see not handcuffed to a person is a BACKPACK NUKE!” announcements in airports.

I think this is a very reasonable thing to be concerned about, because if you see a sign like this there is an 80% chance that Israeli missiles are about to flatten every civilian building in a 10 mile radius.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 years ago

Based israel bombing fr*nce wtf?!?!

Everybody in the West is legitimately a fucking conspiracy theorist. Libs are all conspiracy theorists

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago

This kind of performative jingoistic spectacle happens a lot during wartime.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'll bet Putler made the sign do that with his Chinese hacking farms

Exploding tacos or some such marketing scheme. I like spicy foods. I’ll take two.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

Exploding tacos seems like FINALLY some Scovilles that I wouldn't be able to handle

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

i hope it has baba ganoush in it
