Someone commented that "we're shooting past clean wehrmacht, past the recent innovation of clean SS and all the way straight to clean Hitler."

[edit] OK, I'll just say it - over 30k and counting. "You are like Hitler if you don't want to genocide the Palestinians".

The myth of the "secret holocaust" is a pernicious piece of propaganda. The idea that "if only we'd known, we'd have invaded earlier" is a lie(the us refused to accept Jewish refugees) and is used today to justify military intervention in conjunction with atrocity propaganda like the "beheaded babies" lie is being used now.

Nah but he " studied it for 30 years " though

Zionists, man. What the fuck

The Holocaust was not remotely a secret to people in Nazi-occupied territory, that's a massive historical revision. There was an attempt to erase evidence as they lost ground to prevent the Allied forces from learning about what they did, or at least the full extent, but any Pole or German with eyes who was able to walk the street during the day could have told you that people were being "done away with" systemically and sometimes just killed in the street.

It's frankly disgusting to pretend that the Holocaust was some kind of secret operation except for being draped in the thinnest forms of euphemism when it was described.

even in Germany, if all your Jewish neighbors start getting disappeared it's pretty clear what's going on

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

People knew about the gestapo.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago

Yeah, his post is a piece of holocaust denial. Every accusation from Empire is a confession

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Imagine voting for the guy that keeps calling jews vermin and wants them removed from germany and then all jews disappearing, I think most people know. Btw they tried to avoid building camps near the western borders, because of le international community, but the rest of the country was fair game.

Important to note that Hitler did not win that election, the liberal Hindenberg did. Hindenberg then appointed Hitler to the next highest office (in a depraved attempt to appeal to the fascists) and, during his term, died in office, at which point Hitler seized power in what you could call a soft coup.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Tbf he had still a lota supporters, but yeah Von Papen und Hindenburg kinda like went behind the publics back to make the nazis win faster lol.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Oh yeah, he still got a decent portion of the vote and after he spent some time as fuhrer (and purged leftists, minorities, etc) he had like 2/3 support. My point was that he was never voted into office ever. Period.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

also it was pretty public knowledge that the nazis were robbing Jews and doing pogroms. Kristallnacht wasn't exactly a secret

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Literally giving the stolen stuff from jews to germans, was kinda one of the main selling points of the NSDAP.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

"hey do you want other peoples stuff and are willing to overlook bloodstains all over it join the nazi party"

[–] [email protected] 47 points 2 years ago

The nazis were actually better, for they knew to hide their genocide.

Hamas, which is not committing a genocide, has the gall to not hide their genocide. Truly, unassailable.

[edit] OK, I'll just say it - over 30k and counting. "You are like Hitler if you don't want to genocide the Palestinians".

No, he is saying that makes you worse than Hitler actually.

I'm declaring "Allahu Akbar" for this thread

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 years ago

I guess rapists are still allowed to have terrible opinions about Israel?

Idk, maybe instead of studying Holocaust deniers you should have studied the actual Holocaust?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 years ago

100% chance he doesn't count double-genocide lies as holocaust denial

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 years ago

Saying "god is great" is fine in English but god forbid someone do it if they're brown and speak a non-approved language us-foreign-policy

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Didn't most Holocaust victims die in the ghettos and not the camps? Like I swear I legitimately heard this during Hillel events. It's not really secretive if it's in the middle of the city.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I'm having a whole lot of trouble finding specific numbers on that one. The only thing I know off my head is that Adolf Eichmann (Nazi scum who organized the holocaust) in Hannah Arendt's book gave a number something like 4 million in the camps, 2 million through other murders. That total probably doesn't included executed prisoners of war, who were around 5 million, and probably doesn't include the (i think) 1.3 million Soviet Jews killed through invasion. A little over one million were killed at Auschwitz II–Birkenau alone by most accounts.

You're right that Nazis didn't exactly hide their murders. The only thing you could say is they started doing it faster after around 1942, which is when the war started falling out of Germany's favor. That's when they started doing stuff like burning documents too. If I had to guess the Nazis were probably covering their tracks out of a belief they might get captured by Soviets and hanged

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Unless Eichmann's estimate is higher than the modern one, Jews killed in the USSR by the Nazis or their collaborators for being Jewish are counted as part of the Holocaust conventionally, and ~1 million is the common number for that toll.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

I'm sure soon enough it will be decided that that wasn't part of the holocaust just some wholesome anti soviet nationalism

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

If I had to guess the Nazis were probably covering their tracks out of a belief they might get captured by Soviets and hanged

thinking they might get in trouble for the mass murder was not an unfounded concern

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Most victims of the holocaust weren't even Jewish but God fucking help you if you go around saying that out loud.

One of the reactionary nerds in the orbit of "new atheists", has a (right) libertarian bent. Edit of Skeptic, itself a magazine that combines those two things.

As you might expect, he has neocon leanings via his islamophobia.

Oh, one of those

TIL 7 year old Abdul who has lived through artillery shelling for his whole life for the crime of being born in the wrong patch of land is literally worse than Mengele

Shermdude the wormfood

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

I am pretty sure the nazis were pretty open about wanting to kill Jews. They talked about it a lot

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

why do i use this website and see these things what is wrong with me

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

It's amazing how they've taken one of the most depraved, horrible acts of humanity against itself and turned it into a cudgel when you don't support the foreign policy goal of genocide.

Do you ever sit back and really think about how awful these people are?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Shermer is such a weird character. Skeptic magazine has done some genuinely great stuff about cults and vaccines, and Shermer himself very publicly and loudly renounced his climate change denial position after looking through the evidence, which is dizzyingly unusual. On the other hand, libertarian-approaching and hitler-detector

Ah, so something happened that affected him personally. Always the same shit with these clueless rich assholes
