lmao fucking 2009 is now the mythical conservative golden age? I wonder what conservatives in 2009 had to say about the year 2009. I’m sure they weren’t saying anything about ‘Murican society being the deepest in the shitter it’s ever been because of gay people and Mexicans and satanic Obama socialism or anything.

Is this dipshit 12 fucking years old or is chud memory worse than an Alzheimer’s ridden Boe Jiden? A 2009 chud would have used the left image as an example of how the gay satanist cabal had destroyed america

When I was a teenager, I had several frustrating conversations with chuds twice my age who went along with the pivot from "we have to invade Iraq because it has weapons of mass destruction" to "we're here to free the Iraqi people" as though the invasion had never been justified on any grounds except the latter. I was legitimately baffled that anyone could be that stupid (this was before Roderic Day's "Masses, Elites, And Rebels" or Fred Clark's "False Witnesses").

And then by the time Trump came round in 2016 and said "we never should have been in Iraq" all those same idiots agreed.

Even if you're a reactionary fuckhead, it's much easier to believe we can go back to 2009 than 1949 (or whatever other year). And considering capitalisms has not stopped for a single second in it's quest to vaporize everything that is, I'd mich prefer to live in 2009 too compared to today.

Explaining the passage of time to an Amerikkkan: "now, imagine a burger..."

Picture society

society is a McDonald's

What is society, if not individual McDonald's chains?

Society as toilets (I use McDonald's as public restrooms because they're open more often than actual, local government run public restrooms).

Say it isn't so! Social conservatism always results in a hollowed out, soulless culture in which the fun, unique, and superfluous aspects of existence are steamrolled in favor of bland conformism? And it always applies to everything?

Wow, crazy how when you cut corners, corners get cut. What do you mean, you don't like it when everything is a circle? You specifically asked for all of the corners to be cut off of everything!

Lib ass take, this is just capitalism. Even capitalism in its most "progressive" version does this and it does nothing but this.

And your public assemblies I have come to hate. For there are excessive banqueting, and subtle flutes which provide lustful movements, and useless and luxurious anointing, and crowning with garlands.

-a guy who died in 215 C.E.

It's a lot older than capitalism.

Shakes fist “stupid sexy flautist”

[–] Lyudmila@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

Social conservatism is not exclusive to capitalist economies. It's existed as a mentality for millennia before capitalism came to be, and still exists in socialist states.

You recognize that even "progressive" capitalism isn't progressive at all, so where's the communication breakdown here?

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

Right: Chaotic, tacky, featuring animals being pushed to the brink of extinction by the sort of automatic consumerism the brand was built on enabling.

Left: Bland, corporate, soulless, and generic, reflecting the flattening of culture that the relentless global spread of a mass-produced commodity food designed to taste the same everywhere has achieved.

Is this an actual negative trend or has American culture just somehow mastered the art of rotting sideways. No actual decomposition into something fertile in which something new can take route, just an endless cycling through the different manifestations of the same monster?

2009, great time for America.

'imagine mcdonalds is everything in existence'

burgerbrains are a parody of themselves. They don't need to 'imagine' it, it's their core worldview

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago

Okay, this is how we make America great again: imagine a burger... treatler

[–] trabpukcip@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago

Literally just "I miss my childhood"

[–] M68040@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

Two factors here, one business-specific: One, more generic architecture is cheaper and easier to resell. Two, McDonalds has been running from people's "kiddy" perception of the brand since the '90s (to limited success).

2009 America was woke, checkmate liberals.

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

That’s not 20 years, it’s only 16 years. Just wait…

Checkmate chudasses.

I honestly wish nothing but the worst kind of death for everyone on that site

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

i do wonder if the powers that be all got together and decided we cant have fun looking shit anymore because it’s going to clash with the fascist reality they’re currently imposing on us

(i don’t actually wonder that but it’s not that crazy to think)

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's more that the realities of late capitalism required them to just be as streamlined and efficient as possible. Kids don't have money, teens do, and teens don't like kid stuff

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

kids dont have money but they’re a massive advertising block. advertisers like targeting kids because then it manipulates their parents into feeling pressured to buy things when the kid asks. mcdonalds used to look that way so kids would beg their parents to take them, so i’m wondering why trying to target teenagers is the new strategy

tho i personally as a teenager would have rather been in the kiddy mcdonalds so i can feel like an adult in there by comparison. corporate mcdonalds is uncomfortable to be in even as an adult

[–] Chertstone@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

zoomers remember 2009, a decent chunk of them do at least.

[–] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

You know all those plans Nazis and Italian Fascists had for mega architecture? Modern day fascists have that but for turning McDonald's back into a clown house. Like an 80-story building that takes up a whole block but it looks like a playskool hamburger
