I can't get around the parents not letting their kid get Dance Dance Revolution.
Parents: how dare you exercise and enjoy it.

That's called capitulation. Not every conservative, religious person is a complete psycho.
Or maybe they would rather their kid get out of the house and hangout with friends at the arcade.
For real. My parents were EXTACTIC when I got into DDR. They were happy to pay for the pads. Making exercise fun is the only way I've been able to regularly do it.
Stories like this always make me think: that dude probably rarely thinks about what he did that day, but to the person writing the story it's a treasured memory. We do countless kindnesses like this, big and small, then never think about them again or know how important they were to the person receiving them. It might be paying for somebody's groceries, letting them go first when they're in a hurry, or something you said without realizing the impact your words made.
I think about this because I'm one of many people that will scroll past a meme saying "you matter" and instantly know that it's wrong. But this idea is the closest I get to seeing the truth in it. We'll never know how many people are out there telling a story like this about us without even knowing our name. But they are out there - and that feels pretty nice to think about.
As I've become older and been friends with many much older people, they generally take care to say something like "I really appreciated your help yesterday".
I don't know if it's right or wrong, but they're telling you they enjoyed the time/favor whatever.
And I'm a brash fucking asshole to meet.

Thanks! Then I actually did find the game. For some reason I thought the story would be set 10-20 years earlier than it actually was (I guess I'm getting old) and I didn't think that a dancing game was the kind of game the parents specifically objected to.
Now I know more!
DDR is great, but Beat Beat Revelation is killer!
