Don't actually start shit please.

So my take

meat takeis that boneless chicken wings are in all ways superior to normal chicken wings.

vegetarian takeFirm tofu is hands down better than all other forms of tofu, tempeh, etc.

And mash potatoes on pizza isn't actually that bad. Just make it a proper pureé instead of smooshing up a baked potato with a spoon and calling it a day.

CW: non vegan post

My take is that as long as you enjoy your food I don't care how you eat it. Put pineapple on your pizza or make a banana and mayo sandwich or whatever weird shit you want if you like it eat it I don't really care. Folks get real bent outta shape with the "how dare you enjoy food the way you want to" takes it's stupid. Eat it how you wanna eat it

I blocked a user i usually like interacting because they got really weirdly belligerent about me saying using doritos for nachos isn't all that weird because it's literally a chili lime flavored tortilla chip anyway and then they sicced the mods on me for misgendering because I was just like "ok, guy" chomsky-yes-honey FYI y'all for the record everyone my "ok, guy" was not meant to be an attack on their they them pronouns and i feel like that shoulda been obvious

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (4 children)

"ok, guy" is like calling everyone dude. Don't. Unless they're a dude or a guy or tell you it's okay. Otherwise it's misgendering even if you don't mean it as such. They correctly sicced the mods on you and it doesn't seem like you've learned from it so hopefully this time you do. If someone doesn't want to be referred to by a gender don't refer to them as similarly gendered words either it's actually extremely easy and unambiguous.

Although you are correct about Doritos for nachos I do that all the time

i have been observing voluntary dietary restrictions already and am seriously tempted to make the leap to vegetarian, because what i'm learning right now about avoiding certain foods is that it's hard, it's annoying, but it's doable, and I am capable of cooking my own food to some robust degree. It's time.

Vegan is another step beyond, i might get there someday, but i'm interested in moving that way. The inertia of a lifetime of eating meat, my relative lack of means, and the stress of life makes big changes difficult right now, but I accept the moral arguments, I want to get there.

Outdoor cat burgers have a significantly better mouthfeel thanks to their free range diet.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Propane barbeque, charcoal barbeque, or pan fried? Remember that there is only one right answer

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Charcoal, but done indoors, because I'm carbon-neutral, but hate outdoor cats.

indoor cat with that veal-like muscle and fat development

You might think a wagyu steak has marbling but you've never tried fat cat who never moves around steak j/s

im not even a vegan and i'm grossed out by my own comment

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Bone in meat is fucking dog shit and all the people who think leaving the bone in makes the flavor magically better are wrong, all you're doing is making people have to work eating around shit. I don't care what nerd shit you wanna say to me about collagen or bone marrow or whatever, the difference in flavor is imperceptible and the difference in eating EXPERIENCE is massive. Fillets all day.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You will hate it in China. Order some duck or chicken rice, they will cook it whole, then cut the entire thing up, bones en all, with a cleaver, and dump it straight into the bowl. Shards of shattered bone everywhere

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago
[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It makes a noticeable difference in stews and soups where bone and cartilage can actually break down

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

well yeah but then you're having it affect the consistency and mouth feel of the soup so yeah i agree, i meant more like bone in steaks or pork chops or chicken wings and stuff like that

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I eat white sugar and a few other edge cases but I still call myself vegan because it's easier than saying "I eat mostly plant based"

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 weeks ago

I had to Google what's non-vegan about white sugar. ANIMAL BONE CHAR? JFC carnists what is wrong with you people

Firm tofu is hands down better than all other forms of tofu

this is too nonsensical to agree or disagree with. like saying blue is hands down better than 16

firm and silken tofu are for completely different things in completely different contexts. all you've said with this post is that you don't know very much about how to use tofu

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I'd normally say telling a Korean they don't know shit about tofu is a wild take, but we're here in a thread asking for wild takes.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

is gooey cheese the same as hard cheese? i'll remind you, tofu is bean cheese

if you decide to argue the latter point then explain to me why making tofu and making ricotta cheese is the EXACT SAME

Firm tofu makes for the best analog for chicken, in my opinion. Some firm tofu, roughly sliced, soaked in Soy Vay Teriyaki, fried, and served over rice? Absolutely delicious, good texture, easy to make.

I don't know if it's my area, but I've also noticed firm tofu is generally on the cheaper side, which is doubly nice when you're trying to make healthy meals on a budget.

Burgers, bean or otherwise, should be simple

The second you begin to go beyond the scope of "patty with condiment on a bun", you're just putting hats on hats

And that's just silly

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Simple? Yes. Just condiment? No. A few good toppings can take a burger from good to great.

Compare: patty and mayo vs patty, cheese, crunchy lettuce, mushrooms, and mayo.

If you know what a cows life is like and continue to support that exploitation I will distrust you. I do not understand how you can look yourself in the mirror after purchasing a carton of milk again and frankly I don't care.

Fuckin hate it. Food is awful. I'd much rather photosynthesize. (may have an ED? for me it's not super severe though, I just really don't enjoy eating)

// I've enjoyed sardines for years. I prefer sardines in olive oil. Sardines have been a cheap meal. I laughed when I saw the headlines but it feels like the trend might drive the price up.

We need to calm down on all the sticky stuff we're putting on food nowadays. Not every entree or sandwich needs to have hot honey or balsamic reduction. Especially as someone with a beard, if there's a sauce that's some sort of syrup, glaze, or reduction it's getting trapped in there and I am going to be miserable until I can wash it out. I realize that this is a problem entirely of my own making, but it's still annoying.

It's okay to put sweet chili heat Doritos and barbeque sauce into bean wraps.

doing a pizza with spicy hummus instead of tomato sauce is superior in every way, also pineapples on a hummus pizza is S-tier and italians can eat my ass anti-italian-action
