What a useless interviewer. "I asked Biden what he would do in a second term to protect abortion access at the federal level"

WHY DON'T YOU ASK HIM WHAT HE COULD DO NOW, AS AN ACTUALLY EXISTING PRESIDENT?!

just-one-small-problem

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 37 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That's coming with his student loan relief plan...

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 47 points 1 year ago (2 children)

He's forgiven loans for another 25 people so I'm really not sure what more you commies want from him.

Another 4000 years and we'll have the student debt crisis reasonably and pragmatically managed.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

The Student debt crisis which HE PERSONALLY CREATED THROUGH HIS OWN ACTIONS BY CHAMPIONING AND PASSING THE BILL THAT MADE IT ILLEGAL TO DISCHARGE YOUR STUDENT DEBT.

I cannot cannot cannot cannot cannot understand why anyone believed he would fix this thing, HE DID IT. IT'S HIS LEGACY. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 20 points 1 year ago

*forgiven those 25 by applying the law that should have already forgiven said amounts

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And the cure for cancer. He promised.

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

I know that was just the pudding dripping out his ear, but that sure was a wacky thing to say and if the DNC had a shred of consistency, that would have put them in a weird spot.

If it was a real promise, it should have been done in the first term, in order to not look weak if for whatever reason, he doesn't make it to a second.

This is true of any issue he campaigned on last time, like legal weed

fuck i forgot about that lmao. i love that everyone was immediately like "okay cap, we know that's not gonna happen, what else ya got?"

Excellent political instinct as the "harm reduction" candidate to announce your opposition to the concept of bodily autonomy. Eager to see how the Dems will attempt to claim that he misspoke or something.

"I don't agree with the right to choose, but it's the politically expedient position, Jack!"

[–] Pastaguini@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago (2 children)
[–] Frank@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I haven't heard them bring that up in a while. Now it's just "yes, he is objectively evil, but trump is double evil!"

[–] Pastaguini@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The weird thing is I don’t think I ever actually heard him stutter. He speaks incoherently and says inappropriate things but he doesn’t repeat the first sounds of his words. It never really made sense as an excuse.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago

I've seen a couple of clips of him legit stuttering, but they're from like 30 years ago. "He has a stutter" sure, but he seems to have figured it out decades ago.

beginning to sense that voting for him isn't about harm reduction so much as culpability reduction. the exact same shit will happen either way, it'll just be someone else's fault.

Complete inability to read the room. It’s not 1992, the kind of voters he’s trying not to alienate with this shit have been dead for a decade and change.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s not 1992...

Maybe (very?) soon Biden says "President Clinton is workin' to solve this problem. And I as senator am doing my part. Hold on. That doesn't sound right. Not at all. I feel funny. Does anybody else smell burning rubber?"

The emperor not only has no clothes, he is shitting himself while waggling his robinette around on k street.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

The emperor is loudly declaring that he has no clothes and anybody who says he does is a dog faced pony soldier, followed by 48 hours of MSNBC saying anybody who says Biden has no clothes is a Russian shill.

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

biden-harbinger I could shoot every policy you libs care about in broad daylight and not lose any of your votes

(Because you believe in nothing)

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 50 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The absolute masterclass in politics of Joe Biden coming out right now and clarifying that he's begrudgingly pro choice from a polical expediency stand point but against it personally.

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago

"you have to have a public and private position"

Biden once voted for a constitutional amendment to overturn Roe v Wade btw.

[–] SpookyGenderCommunist@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Holy shit, do you have a source for that? I gotta keep that in the back pocket, for arguments with libs

We pushed him so far left he had an integer overflow error.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 38 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Democrats did this "abortion is a right but I morally object to it" song and dance for decades. Biden's mummified brain can't read the room and understand that excuse isn't important anymore.

"It's just my personal belief, it won't effect my decision making" okay cool how about you just shut your fucking mouth about it then? You're talking to a reporter not pleading your case in the court of almighty judgement.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago

"I guess I'll do the right thing but I want to make it really clear I'm doing it for political reasons and wanna make sure everybody knows I'm still on the wrong side of history and this isn't a firmly held belief."

Why don’t these people ever die

Also you’d have to be a fucking dumbass to believe this dems controlled senate house and pres when roe was repealed

Don't forget the 4 years after that where libs insist we handed Trump the presidency because we didn't like that Biden was old.

It's the "but her emails" of a hip new generation.

"i have no principles and if I did, they would be wrong."

[–] PurrLure@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago

Tell people you're a sex offender without saying it directly, holy shit.

Also what the hell do you mean "this is probably the most rational allocation of responsibility that all major religions have signed on", why do women need anyone's permission over their own bodies? Because then you'd have less kids to snort, you sick fuck?

Screw anyone that tries to guilt you into voting for Biden this year, regardless of what state you live in. xi-gun-1 xi-gun-2 joever

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

Are you telling me that an octogenarian conservative catholic who was best buddies with Strom Thurmond has absolutely dogshit opinions about women's bodily autonomy?

Color me surprised.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago

Wanton Hussies are bad, jack. Oops. My stutter. I meant to say RESTORE ROE and all that jazz. Don't forget to vote!

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

brump "I've never been supportive of 'It's my body I can do what I want with it'. Look, I'm a walking counter-example, Jack. Most of the time I can't even remember what I want or am even supposed to do, much less being able to."

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Lmao this is a great point obviously the guy who's body routinely tries to mutiny him and make him walk off into the sunset doesn't support his bodies coup d'etat

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Wtf even is "abortion on demand"?? It isn't Netflix, you have to see a doctor to do it. It has the same fascist ring to it as when they say "omg they're now killing babies when they're born"

Pure fearmongering.

[–] D3FNC@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

I can translate. "Abortion on demand" means "without bullshit red tape, multiple visits, gate-keeping, unnecessary expenses and guilt-tripping."

Apparently equivalency to any other medical procedure is unthinkable. And that's with access to healthcare being absolute dog shit here as it is.

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD AN ABORTION

I'm convinced - with very little evidenced - that she and her husband are very much anti-abortion but they lie because if they were honest - their audience would dry up and they'd lose a lot of money.

Whaddya know. I was right.

archive.today • What We Talk About When We Talk About Elizabeth Bruenig | by Jude Ellison S. Doyle | Jul, 2022 | Medium

The once-beloved “leftist” is facing backlash for her anti-abortion views. Why did it take this long?

Jul 20, 2022

This bit is highlighted...

To strip women and trans people of agency, violate their bodies, kill thousands of them, and then throw the survivors some free diapers isn’t “leftism;” it’s barbarism with a sheen of feel-good charity to make it sell.

There's a lot more I could quote but I'll just mention this...

Consider a sentence from that 2014 piece on “pro-life liberalism:” “Since we care enough about the outcome of pregnancy to insist against abortion, then we must continue to care about the outcome when abortion is no longer a legal option.” Did you catch it? I didn’t, at first. It’s so subtle, just a whiff of a suggestion of a hint of a teeeeeensy tell: “When abortion is no longer a legal option.”

Not “if.” When.

For Elizabeth Bruenig, the overturn of Roe has always been both possible and desirable. Her “leftism” is simple cleanliness: She wants to be standing just far enough away that she won’t be spattered with blood when the axe falls.

Thank god for archive.today. The article is now behind a paywall.
