Its funny to see the same folks who jerked it to the Reddit Keyboard Commander campaign into Ukraine (before they got flattened by artillery) suddenly find the dignity and reserve to trash on a civil rights protester.

Just gotta spend more time reading the Quran.

She was kinda both. If they'd been able to keep Denise Crosby as chief security officer, and Patrick Stewart had pulled the plug after Jean Luc went Borg, the show would have been absolutely dripping in Girl Power.

Its a bit of a shame that she, Crusher, and Whoopi Goldberg all had to play "Captain Whisperer" for the majority of the show's run. But it was a huge step up from the original series.

Translation: We need ~~the threat of her death in office to blackmail voters with~~ at least one more 40-year old Federalist Society Judge to dominate the judicial branch for the next generation, just in case Thomas kicks it and Roberts pulls a Souter.

Yeah, I did read something on that while I was picking through the citations. Idk if it's a "cure" so much as there is scripture to justify the ethical treatment of hermaphrodites and that this informs their views on transgender treatment favorably. This leads to the presumption that being gay is just an internal manifestation of being transgender, and therefore you can square the circle of scripture (pro-hermaphrodite, anti-sodomy) by asserting an individual in a gay relationship is simply an unwitting hermaphrodite who needs to present and conform with the proper gender.

In some ways, it reminds me of the virginity fetish in traditional cis-het Christian relationships that result on young people experimenting with every conceivable way of getting off that doesn't involve breaking the hymen. People fighting so hard to adhere to the letter of the law that they abandon the intent.

Its further worth considering the treatment of different genders within orthodox Islamic faith. Trans-masc individuals enjoy a kind of social promotion into the higher rung of Islamic life, while Trans-fem individuals have to surrender their male privilege as a consequence of transitioning. Transgenderism isn't just a "cure for homosexuality" but a cure/curse of the entire transitioned gender.

So... real "it's complicated" energy.

Not to be all obama-medal but the markets have never been performing better. We just got off a 30% jump in equity prices in 2023, when the running annual average is around 6-8%. This, after the tickle of a downturn during COVID, followed by a sold four-year bull run.

It is absolutely crazy to see anyone complain about how the US economic system is supposed to perform into the future. Yeah, China's steady durable growth built on long term investment in infrastructure, commitment to universal publicly financed higher education, and publicly available amenities like housing and health care and high speed mass transit have dramatically improved the fundamentals of their market over the last 20 years.

But who are we kidding? We're not going to do any of that soy commie bullshit! No, we're going balls deep into speculative assets like Bitcoin and make-work automation practices like AI. We're building giant machines to gobble up all our natural resources, assigning those machines market prices, and telling everyone that our productivity is through the roof. And it's working! BIG. NUMBER. GO. UP!!!! stonks-up

In light of that fact, who cares what China does? We put up a scoreboard and started ringing the "We scored a point" bell and its been ringing off the hook for half a decade. We won at our own game! Why are we complaining now?

When the site was originally founded, it was explicitly recommended by the mods to periodically ditch and cycle accounts in order to prevent anyone on the site from being targeted, tracked, and harassed.

I never really took that advice, because I am lazy and overconfident. But unless there was a stark reversal that I missed, I assume its cool and even encouraged.

it's a joke. I saw it on twitter and thought it was funny.

Ah. Then it went straight over my head.

She wore a man's suit, carried the Quran, and she tied shoes around her neck. This was a reference to the Ashura festival, and also indicated that she was looking for refuge. Molkara was held back and beaten by security guards until Khomeini's brother, Hassan Pasandide, intervened.

Rough start.

Khomeini then decided that sex reassignment surgery was needed to allow her to carry out her religious duties. This resulted in Khomeini issuing a fatwa, where he determined sex reassignment surgery to not be against Islamic law. Molkara lobbied for the according medical knowledge and procedures to be implemented in Iran, and worked on helping other transgender people have access to surgeries. She completed her gender-affirming surgery in Thailand in 1997, due to "unhappiness with procedures in her native country''. The Iranian government paid for her surgery, and she was able to help establish government funding for many other transgender individual's surgeries.

That's absolutely news to me. TIL.

That said

the consequences of being friendly to transgender individuals but hostile to homosexual relationships has created some complications

They still manage to be ahead of the Western standard, and demonstrated the ability to continually analyze, rationalize, and improve, which is something I've never seen any mainstream Western scholar offer them credit for.

Trans lives have only ever improved under the Islamic Revolution

Oh, uh... I'm going to need a lot more than a meme to back that up. This has one foot in the pinker Everything Always Gets Better Forever camp and another in the not-listening If You Discount Western Agitprop Then You Won't Hear Anyone Complaining So Its Fine camp.

I do know a few Iranian expats, and they aren't big fans of the existing Iranian Government, particularly under Mahmoud "No Gay People In Iran" Ahmadinejad. If there's a bunch of "Actually Khomeini was great for trans rights!" info out there, I'd genuinely love to hear it. But I'm not holding my breath.

beware of foreign influences. dont be xenophobic and afraid of culture. but people need to realize that russia and china are not friendly. China is mainly the enemy of the world

  • Meme about Evil Russia

  • "But don't forget that China is evil, too!!!!"

Damn. This liberal got scratched so hard he's fountaining fascism.

I do find it a bit curious that the Leftist is this lean, blonde, chiseled chad and the Chud is this fat, creepy Groyper. Also, both white dudes.

Obviously, "they've fallen for the classic Russian propaganda while my mind is immune to such deprivations!" bit is liberal af. But it does feel a bit like they're telling on themselves when they make this shit.

When something is as old and venerated and reproduced as a Shakespeare classic, sometimes its good to take a minute and check under the hood.

Art that stands the test of 600 years time tends to have survived for a good reason.
