What does Chenoweth consider is violent?

Where's the line where she would classify your movement as violent (and therefore likely to fail)?

Gerrymandering and the electoral college do a lot of heavy lifting

I don't usually hear this opinion.

Most of the time, it's about how XMPP has everything you need without the boat of a Matrix server.

What I don't get is why Meta doesn't just unite all 3 under "Messenger".

They needed a smaller app for countries that don't have WiFi, only cell plans.

A lot of countries use only Messenger or WhatsApp, and consolidating them would change the name and be a brand risk.

XMPP vs everything else (discuss.privacyguides.net)

cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/40286422

Is UX/UI and marketing really the reason XMPP lags behind Signal/Matrix/Telegram?

Matrix is going Freemium and WhatsApp is adding ads, which is sparking the annual "time to leave [app]" threads.

Users don't care that much about privacy, but they do care about enshittification, so XMPP not being built for it shouldn't be a problem.

Meanwhile, I've heard for years that XMPP has solved a lot of the problems that lead more popular apps to fail.

Is it really just a marketing/UX/UI problem?

If XMPP had a killer app with all the features that Signal/Whatsapp/Telegram has, would it have as many users?

If not, why does it keep getting out-adopted by new apps and protocols?

I think I remember that movie!

It turned me against Neuralink back when waitbutwhy had me thinking he was the Second Coming.

I barely know anything about you or the service, but your posts in that thread actively drive me away from it.

Resurrecting this post from the dead to respond:

Digital Audiobooks do not require ISBNs. Those sold through Audible, Amazon and iTunes get a number assigned by Amazon.

Agreed. Call yourself whatever you want.

I consider this:

One part sarcasm, one part hoping they'd actually do it and get in trouble.

as underhanded and immature. What kind of argument were you having?

Reminds me of the 'murder is okay' meme.

Edit: this one.

nothing suspicious 🤤

Update to comm rules (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

TL;DR: Centuriichan has some problematic edge-posts, but they haven't crossed into what I consider maliciously bigoted J.K. Rowling territory. If they've crossed your personal line, I support you leaving and blocking the comm for your own mental health. I'm going to keep posting the comics I like.

I've added comm rules in the sidebar, and a link to the discussion thread so others can see and make their own decision.

I checked out zaza's link and I agree with others who think most of the examples in it are reading too deep.

  • "No son of mine is going to be a chocolatier" is clearly riffing off of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake. I can see how it could be read racist, but from what I saw the milkman series is about an edgy loli milkmaid breaking bad.
  • The British/Spanish colonizers comic doesn't glorify colonizers. The British colonizer is portrayed as a drug dealer and the women with the Spanish colonizer are clearly not smiling. I can see the argument for it trivializing historical rape, but I also saw Jon Stewart making a joke about Lincoln's assassination this week. Jokes about historical atrocities isn't a touchy subject for me unless they're used to trivialize or justify similar behavior in the present, and I don't think that's happening here.
  • I saw the pickers comic and thought it was 2edgy5me, but it looked like a one-off in a sea of horny historical meme-posting.
  • The "gamer power" comic is new to me. I don't know how old centurii-chan is, but it looks like a 14 year old who discovered that it's fun to troll people with ragebait. Maybe it's a phase and they'll grow out of it, or maybe the money gets too good and they make it their whole personality.

I cut people off when they're being malicious trolls and/or unapologetically incurious, not because they're ignorant or immature.

But I also acknowledge that context matters and not everyone draws their line at the same place. Not everyone has the energy to call in problematic behavior or tolerate sussy bullshit. Not everyone wants to wait for the smoking gun. So if you see that post and decide to unsub and walk away, that's perfectly sane and I support that.

98% of the time, Centurii-chan is cute, horny and fun, so I'm going to keep posting the comics I like.

If/when the other 2% goes from edgy and problematic to malicious, I'll either let someone else take over the sub or shut it down myself, depending on where we're at.

Comment here if you have questions about the comm or want to suggest amendments to the rules. Thanks for raising awareness and thanks for not being dicks to each other.

I want to celebrate those moments when people on the fediverse get together to meme in the comments, like:

But each line is contributed by a different user.
