Of course, the purpose of a system is what it does.

But that means there is no path to fixing anything through voting, and in fact, the worst thing is people believing that voting "works" and voting is the only thing they have to do to change the system. We aren't going to give Democrats comeuppance to Democrats by voting for them either. Voting is a busybox.

Do something else.

First you say "you’re not mad a GenAI as a technology, you’re mad at Capitalism" and then when I agree with you you move the goal posts to argue against it? Are you just arguing for its own sake?

It's like I never left Reddit!

Talking to you was a mistake. You're just trying to "win" the conversation, you don't actually care about anything I have to say.

I'm done. You can have the last word.

Wrong. The right takes it just as seriously, they just see job losses from AI as an opportunity to kill off the surplus population.

And you can't separate the technology from it's historical and material context. We could say "capitalist LLMs" instead of just "LLMs" every time we talk about the technology, but is that useful.

It also makes them unable to understand art. They think art is when something looks or sounds nice, they have no appreciation for anything deeper than that because for them the art is a commodity alienated from the labor that produced it.

The problem is capitalism, but the technology was produced under capitalism and you're using this technology under capitalism. So, a distinction without a difference.

That's why FPTP doesn't work. It's a broken electoral system that produces exactly this result, because the majority of people are not willing to vote for lesser evils and you can't make them no matter how much you scream at them for letting Trump win.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say these people are dehumanizing and debasing themselves.

After a few years of this they'll scarcely be able to think at all.

I've noticed a vibe shift; my theory is that Trump is a radicalizing force (which was the purpose of the so-called No Kings protest, to sheepdog libs back into the party and away from radicalization) and so it should last at least the next few years.

Although if there is a presidential election I'm sure lemmy.world will defederate from lemmy.ml and the libs will have their revenge.

Also! Ukraine is still the one issue that liberals will not budge on and I don't see that changing as Russia racks up victories and the US pulls out of the debacle. I envision a new EU-centered revanchist stabbed-in-the-back myth which sees a need for Europe to reclaim its power from the US and return to its old imperial might to "spread democracy" and "defend human rights".

They used to actually believe it was politically neutral, can you believe it? 😂

What "both"? Are you under the impression the US has an organized left?
