On lemmy I usually read the sub name first but for some reason on reddit I don't

Recently I've been solving mystery geocaches (puzzles so you find the coordinates for the cache)

There's no way you can get free ducks at the park right? You're telling me I can just take them home?

Computer science is so broad you have some truth to your statement. It's more science in the way math is a science as math is one of the underlying building structure of computer science. It also deals with languages and syntax so that's also a subset of science.

Some comp sci people are technicians, computer engineers, some being computer researchers, data scientists, etc

First xmanager went away and I was devastated

Now revanced Spotify doesn't seem to work and I feel defeated.

I feel the cat and mouse game with spotify has caught up and I should just ditch Spotify altogether. Do you guys have any solutions?

I propose to create this community and appointment myself as the mod.

Not sure if this is the correct sub to make these requests so let me know if it's not appropriate and redirect me elsewhere.

In my area they're around $400-$800 seems pretty big in difference depending on the dive shop.

I've only dove a few times and am interested in doing it regularly. Though, this is probably a really expensive hobby.

There's a metal bezel mod that I have on my casio watch that I got from china for $10, I would rather spend more money if it was made in a place with fair practices but it doesn't exist anywhere except aliexpress. There are a bunch of other items stuff like screen protectors and electronics that aren't made in the US for consumers to buy and that's a damn shame.

My point is, the tariffs are supposed to get us to manufacture more stuff in house and be more independent but I don't think it will work. If you look at China's playbook, they didn't impose massive tariffs on the world but still managed to be a global manufacturing warehouse out if nothing. China pretty much just subsidizes a bunch of their companies and gives them major tax breaks, along with giving them money if they sell internationally.

If the orange rapist wants to do this, then why doesn't he just copy the same thing, give incentives to manufacture goods instead of punishing consumers? The reason people aren't buying in house, is because we don't make anything in house.

So I have a young teen entering 7th grade and so they're about to receive their first phone. With that, it opens a lot of doors to all the big tech social media apps and privacy invasive services.

I'm not sure how to approach this. My parents probably want tracking features so it'll probably be Find My or a 3rd party app like life360 depending on if we choose iphone or degoogled pixel.

Social media I'm not sure if fediverse stuff is the right path especially for lemmy, since it's just tech nerd stuff and politics which isn't interesting really unless they go out of their way to find smaller communities. Their friends will probably force them onto Instagram or some shit and I don't really want them doomscolling on reels, that shit algorithm, and the malicious messaging app built in to it.

It's just kinda hard trying to blend being a functional member of society and maintain your mental well being and privacy.

You guys know of any way I can get certified (Advanced and rescue) for a cheaper price or even paid for? I know that my uni has a bit of a discounted rate but was wondering if there are any other options.

Maybe I can do a little marine surveying volunteering for a free cert idk.

Is there a more free version of Alltrails? I find Alltrails to be too paywalled when I don't even think they deserve my money. What exactly do they even do? The community creates everything and it's not like they're contributing to the Maps community or anything.

Any good apps for sleeping, walking, running, etc? Maybe they'll have more in the future but was wondering for the time being.

So my mom promised my little sibling a phone in a few months.

As of now, they have no social media or anything, just a Steam account and Spotify I made with an email alias.

I have the feeling their friends will rope them in to mainstream social media and I have no idea how to combat this or even if I should. Fediverse social media is not even there yet and as for messaging, idk if these guys will find it batshit crazy to use Signal or not.

My main fear is just social media addiction, depression, and the big tech guys stealing personal information.

I'm thinking maybe we get an iphone because my mom still wants the tracking feature for peace of mind and some different phone number for social media.

Graphene phone might be a little hardcore so not gonna go that route, iphone with lockdown mode and no icloud should be fine.

For things like email, thinking protonmail for email because I'm used to it but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions? Do y'all think I'm crazy?
