Hundreds? France would stop working completely and everyone would riot. Get out for your rights mates!

You will save a lot of money doing it yourself, artisans are pricy, and usually you also need to understand their job to be able to check if it was done right.

We bought all the equipment because we do stuff for a couple of hours early in the morning or after work, so renting wouldn't be worth the trouble. everything's going back on craigslist when we're done.

Even if there are small imperfections, the satisfaction of doing something with your own hands gives so much pride and confidence, it's worth it.

Every time we finish something, that's pretty much the point where we acquired enough experience, that doing it again would feel comfortable/easy, and then we never do xD

from my experience of mixing 4-5 bags a day for several weeks, the drill option is cheap, but the lateral drag got quickly heavy on the wrists. You can rent a concrete mixer for probably not too much money at a hardware store, or use a cheap dedicated device https://www.amazon.com/s?k=handheld+cement+mixer

we use the concrete mixer when mixing cement and shoveling sand to make big quantities to pour slabs, and the handheld to mix quickcrete bags in a bassin for laying bricks and other smaller tasks

you don't have to prove anything to anyone. You can feel things without having to perform them, you can be gay and aromantic / asexual. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't be.

Today I went to my local supermarket and was presented with the following brands of toothpaste:

  • Odol-med3 (Aquafresh): Haleon Group 🇬🇧
  • Sensodyne: Haleon Group 🇬🇧
  • Parodontax: Haleon Group 🇬🇧
  • Signal: Unilever 🇬🇧
  • elmex: Colgate-Palmolive 🇺🇸
  • Meridol: Colgate-Palmolive 🇺🇸
  • Colgate: Colgate-Palmolive 🇺🇸
  • Blend-a-med: Procter & Gamble 🇺🇸
  • Blend-a-dent: Procter & Gamble 🇺🇸
  • Crest: Procter & Gamble 🇺🇸
  • Lacalut: Dr. Theiss Naturwaren Gruppe 🇩🇪

You have a big illusion of choice, but in the end most known brands that can also afford advertising are big international groups. I ended up getting Lacalut, the one "made in germany", which cost double.

edit: apparently it's not a great choice for many reasons, so i'll be returning that product and try some of the other recommendations, thanks!

Sure he can!

This is the first problem in a small book I have, check-mate in 1 move.

The opponent's King is in the back right corner of the board. You have a Pawn on the third row in front of it.

In your drop zone, you have a Rook, a Gold General and a Silver General available.

Please use the spoiler tag to post your answer :)

SolutionDrop Gold General in front of the King at 1二, protected by the Pawn at 1三.

Wrong moves:

  • dropping the Rook at 1二, at 3一 or at 4一 lets the King escape to 2一,
  • dropping the Silver General at 1二 lets the King escape to 2二
  • dropping a Gold or Silver General at 2二 lets the King take General back at 2二, since it isn't protected by the Pawn.

Reminder of the movements of the pieces:

They have Loco Motives !

Hi everyone!

A slow week went by, with daily heavy rains it's not always easy to find the motivation to work outside.

We installed a 50 square meter fleece and pond liner on top of the build, and started backfilling with dirt.

It's a lot of work because we have to dig the overgrown pile of dirt that's been sitting for 5 years on our lot, first getting rid of the roots in the top soil. But we have to do this manually as the back is only reachable through a narrow path in our neighbor's garden.

My partner also installed the electrical panel with 24V circuits for RGBW LED strips, a PoE WiFi access point and connected the wall outlets to the 230V main. It was temporarily connected to test how bright the strips will be. They will later be mounted in metal railings across the whole length of the lower brick line, with a wood cladding.

We will then have to dig a 20 meter trench from the house main electric supply, lay a PVC pipe and pull a 3-phase copper line to the cellar. This will be the garden hub to provide electricity to the future outdoor kitchen.

The next few days we will work on the mortar joints, using the multitool diamond blades that arrived in the mail to finish the cleanup before grouting all the joints cleanly.

Have a great week and keep on doing it yourself!

This is so incredible to watch, you feel like you're one of the hermits :D

Hi everyone

It's been a while, I skipped a couple of weeks to get things going on our project!

Last time I wrote we had finished 3 slices of the roof. In the meantime, we finished the 4 next ones and completed the roof.

Eventually we were able to do a complete layer in one day, the second one on top the following day, and move the wooden structure the third day.

We held off laying the last slice to finish the front wall (and be eventually able to attach the ceiling to it), making a door lintel out of cinderblocks and reinforced concrete.

The suspense was high whether we would have enough bricks to finish the project and it turned out we had just 3 extra at the end!

One of the bricks revealed a handwritten signature which turns out to mean "Ludwig Herman". We are still investigating who and when :)

Next, we will spend many hours cleaning the grout from the inside to free the bricks and make nice regular joints. Then we will insulate the outside with a pond liner and cover the root cellar under a thick layer of dirt.

See you soon!
