The DNC has also been actively socially pushing away one the largest voter demographics, white men.

All the messaging about white guilt, all men are toxic, and should pay reparations for the sins of people who did bad things 200 years ago is insane. Imagine telling a child "you parents did crimes, so you must also to go to jail".

Who's gonna vote for a party that seems to hates you? That's like asking the lgbt community to vote republican, a party activity trying to erase them.

The choice was vote for a party that hates you, or vote for a party that hates your friends.

If they truly wanted to win, they'd have to focus less on skin color and gender (but not ignore) and more on economical inequality. It shouldn't matter what skin color you have; if you need help, you get help.

Wow, I only know 8355 numbers. That's very impressive.

I think the worst part is the multi line text, it looks bad. They should stick to a condensed icon only view or a more spaced out view with text.

Does that come before after sevight?

"Pictures don't make sound"

My attempt to explain in a "story" from the girls perspective, I'm not a writer but I tired....

Twas a bright sunny day as the two children relaxed by the roadside watching the carriages and travelers go about their day. A strange looking young man waddled up to them. While the man begins to speak, the girls eyes are drawn the vibrant red robes. Adorned with outlandish decoration, the likes of which she has only heard of in stories about the King's court. The young lad's words snaps her back to the present, where she concludes this man must be one of the King's famous jesteres.

TLDR; yes

They got sold, and last I heard there was 1 Dev left to "maintaining it".

Real shame, I switched to Neo Launcher (on F-droid/Izzy repo, not the play store). Although the last update was 3 years ago, new version "any time now", may have to find something new again.

Lawnchair is popular too

No problem. I'm not happy with the current state of things either, but crossing one thing off the list, even if its lower priority to us, is still good for someone.

I find it interesting that some of the other comments go on picking apart my thing, that basically boil down to military = bad, so right to repair = bad and its not a problem because they are already wasting money. Be glad something good is moving forward.

Consumer rights have been increasingly stomped on by the mega corporations for years now, and they continuasly push the boundries. The very concept of a terms of service "contract" that can be changed anytime by 1 party (and heavily in their favor) is insane. The more control we get back the better.

This is important. Rossman did an interview with a few military techs, and here are few highlights

  • they couldn't get the router password (that they own) for troubleshooting. Imagine your ISP locked you out of the router?
  • it cost 200k to ship a 100k part because they weren't allowed to fix the broken one. 300k - thats a decent sized home in some areas, just to replace a wire or something. (Look up military pricing too, I remeber seeing something about how the military pays $400 for $4 bag of fuses)
  • they have to fly manufacture service techs that don't get schematics, if they need them, an engineer is flown out who closely guards them.

Its a complete waste of taxpayer money. Money that could be redirected into more important stuff, but alas our corrupt politicians will find other things to waste it on.

We're allowed to fix our own cars (although manufactures are trying to stop that), why can't the military fix their own equipment or farmers fix tractors? Get a foothold in the military sector and the rest will follow.

Unfortunately yes, there are technical reasons I don't fully understand. I think has to do with how it's locked down, and that it can be relocked after graphine is installed.

Graphine takes security seriously, so leaving the boot loader unlocked is not acceptable to them.

Although, that may change with google removing pixel specific code from the android source.

Worst is when they copy the click bait title, so the comments are full of people raging about something like "Lemmy now has a premium cost", without realizing it's bull shit.

I'd like my phone to last 5 years minimum.

That seems to be the new standard for continued software support too. If the phone only lasts for half of that, what's the point?

Replacing the battery on a 9a is a invasive 64-step process(ifixit guide). The kit they sell is surprisingly cheap at $40, but has a list of other tools you need. Its definitely not a project most people will undertake.

The solution is Settings -> Account preferences -> Show read posts?

Thanks fujiwood@lemmy.world

I've posted a few time, but the post list always remains empty for some reason.

I can see other people posts on their profiles.

Basically looking a calandar that stays on the deaktop, and can show events (Otherwise I'd just use a wallpaper). I don't need much interaction with it, if any, essentially just open the actaul calandar program. Sync with iCal is a big plus.

While FOSS is ideal, I'm open to anything free (that can be firewalled or is actually private (unlikely, I know))

I found one that used windows 7 widgets, but it was too small and didn't seem to work right anyways.

Android Tablets (lemmy.world)

Does anyone have good experience with android tablets, and possibly replacing the OS? I see some interesting options from Google, lenovo, one plus, etc... I imagine the pixel one will be the easiest to load a new OS to, but I also wonder about the tablet support of things like lineage or graphine.

The hardware doesn't have to be groundbreaking, just good enough to be my "travel laptop" for movies, comics and general interneting. I don't want a laptop, as I often like to sit in chair/bed to read comics or watch movies and a keyboard would make that awkward.

One of my main concerns is the update support - my iPad has been getting updates since 2017, a lot of the android manufactures are promising a pathetic 3 to 5 years. I don't want to be "software bricked" in 5 years (I.e apps eventually requiring an Android version I cannot update to)
