This is obviously true in the strictest sense, but I don’t think it’s going to have the desired effect you want in the long run. How’s the War on Drugs working out? It’s been going for 54 years, so I assume it’s about wrapped up now, drugs aren’t an issue, black market is choked out, and society is better off.

Firearms restrictions will be enforced unequally; it will be used as a pretense to further persecute minorities. Those with money will simply hire private security contractors who can jump through the legal hoops to get whatever they want. The majority of shootings in the US are related to drugs and other illegal activities that have logistics channels to get guns just as easily as drugs or exploited people. Guns are durable and the demand exists. They’re not going anywhere.

The gun problem in the US is not the cause of our woes, it is the symptom. “Make X illegal” is the laziest form of government and it’s just granting them more power which will be abused eventually.

NoScript is duplicative with ublock medium mode, I am amazed people are still using it. It hasn’t been relevant for 5+ years by my estimation. Why use two addons when one you’re already using does it better?

Ban smartphones makes about as much sense as ban drugs or ban guns. It does nothing to address root causes and will do little to change anything for the better. Societal issues take more than “make X illegal”.

D/L refers to the entire molecule and how it polarizes light whereas R/S looks at every chiral center and has a priority system to assign. I’ve only really seen D/L in biochemistry, regular chemistry is using R/S notation. D/L is the older less precise notation. R/S is much more specific and isn’t related to polarization of light.

Not any molecule, it’s gotta be able to have stereoisomers in the first place. There’s no R or S water for example. D/L notation is for biology.

Violence didn’t create war or genocide, those are a result of nationalism and racism, respectively. Violence is the means used to accomplish the goal, but the motivation is what does the creating.

To be clear I’m not pro-violence or something, but it is kinda funny to me when you hear “violence is the answer” and open a history book to see time and time again that violence is the answer for quite a few problems.

No, they said government stuff is on a shoestring budget and doesn’t waste. This is not at all my experience with military / medical / research fields.

This wasn’t a contracting issue, it was blowing the budget on pointless reagents to ensure the budget wasn’t decreased the following year. They just picked the most expensive reagent and bought a ton - all the same lot, all the same expiration date.

Thing is, it wasn’t helpful or useful, and it’s clear whoever ordered it had no clue what was going on. We used maybe 1-2 boxes of those calibrators a year. I probably threw out 6 dozen boxes, all the exact same lot and expiration date, that had been sitting in the back of the -80C freezer for years.

That money could have gone towards any one of the actual lifesaving research programs we had going, but instead it went to some vendor.
