So why would it matter so much what the parent company does? If some changes are seen as unacceptable one could simply just not apply them to one'a own server. (It's not like the Discord company could force anyone to run some particular software on their server. How would that even work.)
I don't understand why people care what Discord does. If they do enough unwelcome changes the people who run their own servers will simply detach from the parent company.
Now there you have one more pet peeve of mine, language preference settings that pretend that all language versions are equal, that shitty translations aren't abundant. If the original text is in a language that I can read then I want the original, not some shitty translation. It shouldn't be that hard!

This is not quite accurate, Proton quite nicely exchanges PGP encrypted mail with people who have PGP but not Proton.

From my experience travelling the world, that's not particularly uncommon. The US doesn't have to feel singled out for having such people on their bank notes.
