Booting problems. Every once in a while, I get GRUB for no reason. Can’t find a boot disk that existed yesterday. WTF? Effing hate that sh!t.

Finally heard about immutability features like VanillaOS and might move to that…

I don’t understand. The GOP should LOVE this idea. Neophytes on the net are highly susceptible to misinformation. They lack the tech savviness to understand that YouTube and Meta are full of lies. The GOP podcasters could sell their supplements and whatnot like crazy. Frankly, affordable internet in rural America would be a disaster for the Democrats.

I vaguely recall it, but lost track of it. Any list of devices it works on, or will work on?

I have found a bunch of restaurants listed in my area that Google Maps never shows. Just that might be enough to make me switch.

You’re in pole position, you have a responsibility to those behind you. Be considerate and pay attention.

Following the link to the billboard article, I see the news station just parrots Mike Johnson’s PR statement with no push back at all. Thanks, media!

Worth a watch. Melissa is good in it. Disappointing that it’s canceled.

What’s this thing inside my drip irrigation tube? 🤔

Put simply, being in the right place at the right time, and having connections, can be as important as having the skills and experience.

A waiting mortuary was designed to confirm that dead people were truly deceased. To alleviate the fear of being buried alive, recently deceased were housed for a time in waiting mortuaries, where attendants would watch for signs of life. A bell was strung to the corpses to alert attendants of motion. It's erroneously believed that this was the origin of the phrase "saved by the bell", but the phrase really comes from boxing.

My wife turned on the wall switch and the pendant light over our dining room table went out. The fuse outside didn’t blow—none of them needed to be reset. I checked for power in the light’s hanging cord, but nothing. I pulled the wall switch to check for power and nothing there either. Thoughts?

From TECO: "With the help of 6,000 utility workers, we expect to restore power for essentially all customers in the coming days. Many will have power sooner; more extensive damage may take longer."

"Hillsborough and Pinellas customers - Thurs. 10/17 by 11:59 p.m."

This study is from 2017, but I suspect the numbers are even worse now.

Those channels give the burrito moisture somewhere to go so the tortilla stays dry. 👍

I love Digikam, but fixing photos is a lot of work. So I use Luminar NEO to get looks that would take hours I don’t want to spend. Is there an open source alternative to Neo? Something that supports LUTs, presets, etc? Thx.

It takes a few minutes for my tankless water heater to warm up, so we end up wasting a lot of water in our shower. Is there a way to avoid this? A friend mentioned a “comfort valve” or something? What is it and how does it work? Or is there another solution? Thx!
