As I have gotten older, the frequency of episodes have decreased. In my early 40's now. I would say it occurs at least once every 3-4 months as opposed to weekly in my teens.

As a Druid = create water + lightning I believe if you are a spider and web an area, your companions can light it up with fire!

Mod removes them. Check the mod log. Nested posts get removed if parent posts are removed.

I enjoy listening to the insults the bard hurls at enemies too! 😆

I've been using a druid of the Moon. I like the versatility. Cast buff or debuff spells, roll into wildshape, smack stuff around, unshape, cast again. I love talking to animals and finding out things I may not have known. Too far to jump? No problem -> spider form. Want to scout ahead? No problem -> cat form. So many fun things to try out with the various forms. I have been out of town for a few days and have not gotten to play much but watched a video last night of all the druid wildshapes to come in higher levels and I am STOKED!!!

Meanwhile, my husband has been playing a bard, another versatile character and he seems to really be enjoying it.

What are you playing?

When my husband and I played, we just picked up who on the ship, and whoever talked to them stuck with them. Once you get off the ship and pick them up, you should be able to freely send them to camp and pick them up there through dialogue options. This would be the more tedious way versus through the session manager.

  1. it is definitely different in the sense that different characters (race, class, skills, and abilities) play a major role in dialogue choices, so it is important to pay attention to conversational choices because they will influence the nature of your game. Whereas most RPGs I've played before, you might have dialogue options, but you essentially get to the same outcomes.

  2. The in-game tutorials are mostly for UI/functional options. As another community member suggested, might want to watch a quick tutorial video. There are a bunch out there.

  3. There are 3 difficulty levels. Default is normal. I would suggest drop it to he story level to start out. The biggest differences between story and normal I know of or have experienced are 1) no multiclassing in story 2) mobs hit a bit harder/your spells don't hit as hard in normal mode 3) finding random things with perception checks occur way more on story mode.

  4. like any new games, trial and error. Quick save often!

  5. The only real rules deal with combat. You can sneak into an area and as long as enemies don't see you (noted by the red on the ground while in sneak mode) you can do anything until enemy sees you or you hit them with something from range. After that, it is turn-based and will use the D&D rules. Each turn has 3 things you can do 1) movement, 2) action, 3) bonus action and you can generally use them in any order. Once all those are done, end your turn and it's the next enemy or players turn. It would probably be beneficial to watch a quick video guide on basic combat rules. Each class has different advantages and limitations, so might want to watch a guide on whichever class you choose to play. You will learn as you go along. Again, remember to save frequently! Even as semi-experienced players, my husband and I are always trying new things and reloading the game to redo when we mess something up.

  6. The game is very casual friendly. It will take a long time to finish it, but you won't need to remember all the details. There's a journal to remind you of new and completed quests.

Honestly we are having the most fun exploring things and trying different dialogue options. If we feel we don't like the outcome, we just reload a previous save and try again until we are happy to move on.

There is no right way to play the game. Just enjoy the story and exploring. Happy adventuring!

PS - save frequently!

Husband and I have been playing for a few weeks (with early access) and that's how it was for us. If you manage to pull off a surprise attack while still in stealth, you can get more as long as your character(s) are not seen. However if the enemy spots just one (or more) of your characters, let's say the "surprise attacker", they will start the next round without those characters not seen or engaged in the attack until you bring them in sight or in combat. Essentially, you can attempt to use that as a surprise attack for a second/third character if they attack from outside the visual range of the enemy. Then they will get placed into the initiative queue. At least that is what we've experienced.

[Potential Spoilers] Best example is outside the cathedral with Gimblebock, the mage, the archer and the other guy. If we sneak up behind the archer, we can kill him without the others spotting us. Then we get our furthest ranged casts and dual hit the mage at the same time, killing her. At that point the other two downstairs realize there's a fight and we force them to come upstairs to fight us. Still may have to walk the non-caster party members to actively join the combat queue.

Before you end turn of your suprise attacker, use that time to bring everyone else into combat, then end your turn. We learned that the hard way, fighting a group of mobs when Shadowheart or some other companion is still just sitting outside.
