Would this be welcome too: women venting about their partners, talking about medical problems/conditions women have (even sex-related), birth control, bras and how they fit, parenthood, etc.? Just getting a feel for the place.

If I remember correctly, downvotes were supposed to filter out spam and other unwanted content, now it is a disagree button.

I just heard about it today, I'm hoping it takes off.

I've been waiting for this for so long. It's no secret there's mostly men on lemmy and most things gravitate towards them. At this time, I would not recommend lemmy to any of my friends who are women. I don't think lemmy really appeals to women or has much to offer them. I hesitate to share perspectives as a woman because I know there's a big chance it isn't going to be taken well and won't be welcome.

NSFW women sex stuffI was downvoted before for saying I didn't enjoy penetration. I said it hurts without lube but even with it, it doesn't feel enjoyable and that vibrators are the only thing that feels good. I talked to another woman in that thread who enjoyed penetration and she got upvoted but I got downvoted and we weren't even arguing, just talking about sex as a woman (it hurts for me, it does not hurt for her, turns out we had more in common beyond that). I've never been judged by other women for this (friends or partners), men who are my partners usually have a problem with it and I've had men tell me they don't want me to have/use sex toys at all. If I talked about this on TwoX, others would either be in a similar boat or offer support. I miss being able to talk to other women online about this stuff.

I'm looking more forward to Summer Eternal's DE spiritual successor, but sure I guess I can check this out if it gets released.

This is like a yes and no. There is a lot of communist talk, I've added comrade to my dictionary thanks to hexbear because I like the sound of comrade more than friend or buddy. They are very pro-Palenstine and hate Zionism. They also don't find Ukraine too favorable. But there are disabled, mutual aid, movie nights, lots of shit posting, dunking, and as you said trans and em_poc communities. There is a shock sometimes, like on 9/11. They hate the US, this is ok for me because I also hate our government. You can wish death on execs/wealthy assholes without getting banned. There is a culture, lots of emoji with esoteric meanings, and you will get banned for saying certain things like comparing China's president to Winnie the Pooh. Generally they favor China to an extent and the Soviet Union to an extent. But you will also get banned for transphobia, they are protective of their trans users/comrades. And they are pro-vegan, anything with animal products needs a content warning. Many things need CW, but I am ok with that. They also introduced me to Disco Elysium, which is an amazing game. Hexbear is ... unique.

I cannot stress enough how great this website is. I was using it to teach myself calculus, there are awesome videos that break everything down and taught me much better than the professor I had.

I used to like webtoons, sure users had to pay $ to read new comics 1 week or so before free users but it was alright to be a free user. I then tried to read a comic that had already finished, Dice. And it became locked behind a paywall. I then stopped using webtoons altogether and went to a different app. It's been years since then, Tower of God now has an anime adaptation.

Ignoring the points of the argument, you have to tell them to "disengage" with nothing else posted in your comment to them. I have a troll following me around every time I talk about a certain topic and the only way to get them to stop (for a brief moment) is to say "disengage." I've made it clear I don't want to talk to them anymore, multiple times, but still I have to type "disengage" every time they reply to me the same exact bad faith shit they always say.

If you don't want to deal with them altogether, you have to consider blocking them. The troll I've been dealing with has tried to egg me and others into blocking them, they celebrate each time they get blocked. So I also understand if you don't want to block them, they are miserable people who enjoy feeding on negativity. The fact trolls roam lemmy can dampen your enjoyment, it really does suck.

Gotta go with YDI here. This was posted in a mental health community which has this rule:

All posts and comments must be helpful and supportive. Do not put vulnerable people at risk.

OP was venting about their abusive parents and the mental health problems they struggle with because of that abuse. You were not helping OP. OP's story resonated with me and I absolutely would not want to read your comment if I were them, I would be pretty offended by it.
