Recent Windows is remarkably hostile, see my comment there. As a Linux user for decades, I was horrified. Awesome move from China.

Also, it's also been happening in Europe for all public stuff slowly but surely; here in France, for example, all computers for the National Assembly run Linux (Ubuntu specifically); also, all cops' precincts are now using Linux as well (a publicly funded custom distribution, GendBuntu).

Its funny how despite this the author is not even overtly rabidly critical of Marxism or Communism itself

Why would he - Liu Cixin has been pretty tight lipped about his politics but some of them were gleaned in one interview:

According to a June 2019 interview and profile article by The New Yorker, Liu avoids talking about politics. In the same article, Liu argued that democracy was not appropriate for modern China, and individual liberty and freedom of governance is "not what Chinese people care about", adding "If you were to loosen up the country a bit, the consequences would be terrifying." He expressed support for policies such as the one-child policy and the Xinjiang re-education camps, saying "the government is helping their economy and trying to lift them out of poverty". The article reported that Liu had "become wary of touting the geopolitical underpinnings of his work".

These few statements alone in a single article were enough to motivate five republican senators to write an official letter to Netflix asking if they were aware of it and that they shouldn't proceed with the netflix adaptation of the trilogy (they ignored them with a canned response). So one can see how he'd be wary of expressing political opinions publicly.

God I hate Neil deGrasse Tyson. He's like a smug reddit atheist personified.

Yeah, it's a highly debated estimate. To be honest part of it I think is the desire to attribute the massive collapse of birds population to another cause than the main one: our modern agricultural practices killing insects in tremendous amounts, depleting their food source (see this article or this one for example). I still think outdoors cats kill a significant amount of a depressingly decreasing population of many species, so keeping them indoors can only help.

Are cats killing that many birds?

This article says they're "likely the single greatest source of anthropogenic mortality for US birds and mammals" (which I personally doubt, I'd say modern agricultural practices is much higher, but still, it shows it's significant). Yet at the same time the same article also says the majority comes from un-owned cats, not pets.

the neighbor put little bells on all the cats so they can’t sneak up on shit anymore

It works, but only decreases about 41% of killings (the little bastards learn to hunt by silencing the bell, lowering their jaw to stop it tingling).

it was shit like the Wire and 24

24 was quite something. Torture and imperialism justification everywhere, interspersed with really on the nose cisco product placement.

Literally the babies of corn - the cob before it matures.

I really liked Green Hell. Including the story parts - the way they were presented was awesome. It was sadly a bit too short though, and also you lacked incentive to build an actual base (still did it for fun though).

This was a great article, thanks.

She'll probably contact google and points towards the chapo thread asking for the reviews to be removed, sadly.
